The AMBER Alert System is an excellent tool for locating and recovering abducted children in your area. According to the US government, the system has helped recover 1,029 children across all participating areas – 87 through wireless emergency alerts alone.
However, these alerts will blast off on mobile devices – phones, tablets, smartwatches – at any time, even while you’re sleeping. You can turn off these Amber Alerts, but this will limit your ability to help authorities recover these kidnapped innocents. This guide shows you how to turn off AMBER and other emergency alerts (except Presidential alerts) on your iPhone and Android devices.
How to Turn Off AMBER Alert on iPhone
Amber alerts are classified as emergency alerts and public safety alerts as well as government alerts. Provided you have a modern iPhone (like the iPhone 14) and your carrier is AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon, you should be able to toggle all three on and off.

How to Turn Off Amber Alerts on Android
You can find AMBER Alert’s interface on Android 12 and 13 devices under the new Emergency Security sub-menu available on Modern.

What are amber alerts?
Although it is easy to get rid of annoying alerts and unnecessary notifications, sometimes it is important to pay attention to which notifications are being disabled and why they are enabled to begin with. Amber Alerts, short for America’s Missing Persons: Broadcast Emergency Response, are alerts issued by the U.S. government to draw attention to a person missing in an area, an extreme weather event, or other miscellaneous emergencies.
Although disabling these features can help reduce notification fatigue, you will also be able to see information about topics that would typically be the subject of an AMBER alert on Google, Bing, or even Facebook.
One thing is worth noting! Even if you disable AMBER alerts, you will still receive other emergency alerts on your phone (such as the national testing conducted by the FCC and FEMA on October 4, 2023). To disable this type of alert, you must turn off government alert, On iPhone, you can find this by going to the Settings app, Notificationsand then disabling the further toggles Government alert. On your Android phone, search wireless emergency alert Disable main and in the Settings app allow alerts Toggle.
You should almost certainly always keep emergency alerts enabled, but if – for some reason – you want or need to disable them, you should get involved.
