- Samsung has announced the Galaxy A42 5G, its newest mid-range 5G device.
- The company didn’t reveal much in terms of specifications and prices, however.
Samsung has done its part in lowering the barrier to entry for 5G this year, releasing the Galaxy A51 5G and A71 5G as mid-range 5G offerings. Now the company has confirmed that another mid-range device is available in the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G.
The company, which was announced at its “Unpacked Part 2” event yesterday (September 1st), didn’t reveal many details about the new phone. However, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy A42 5G will have a quad rear camera setup and a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED screen.
The company also distributed press photos showing the new phone, and we can see a pretty unique back with a textured pattern covering three-quarters of the panel. Otherwise, you’ll also see a phone with a waterdrop notch instead of a cutout hole seen on other mid-range 5G devices from Samsung.

According to Samsung, the new phone will be available “later this year”. Prices and other details (e.g. technical data and availability) have yet to be announced. Even so, we expect a cheaper price tag than the Galaxy A51 5G as the name of the new phone suggests it is lower on the totem pole.
It wasn’t the only Samsung device quietly announced yesterday, either, as the company also revealed the Galaxy Tab A7 and the Galaxy Fit 2. Check out the devices in the gallery below.
As with the Galaxy A42 5G, Samsung didn’t have much to say about these devices. The company confirmed that the Galaxy Tab A7 will have a 10.4-inch screen, 80% screen-to-body ratio, a metal design and four Dolby Atmos speakers. According to Samsung, the Galaxy Fit 2 offers 15 to 21 days of juice, 70 different face options, and features for tracking up to five different types of activities.
Samsung also didn’t reveal pricing, availability, and additional specs for these two devices, but we’ll share any additional information as soon as we receive it. In the meantime, you can try our main attraction at yesterday’s event, the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
