- WhatsApp now offers the option to always mute a chat.
- This replaces the option to mute a chat for a year.
- The company also offers a redesigned storage management page.
One of the most annoying things about WhatsApp is that you can’t permanently mute a contact or group chat because the messaging app only allows you to mute chats for eight hours, a week, or a year.
We learned earlier this year that WhatsApp was working to mute contacts and group chats forever, and it looks like the feature is finally going to be available to beta users now (instead of the option to chat for a year to mute). Frequent licking WABetaInfo discovered the new addition and found that the “Always mute” option is now available in version 126.96.36.199 of the app.
However, in version 188.8.131.52 of WhatsApp, it shows an “Always Silent” option, which suggests that you don’t necessarily need the latest version of the app to keep it working. It is also suggested that this could be a server-side update. Even so, it usually takes a few days for these features to become available to everyone.
This isn’t the only change for WhatsApp users as the tipster reports that a redesigned memory management page is also being released. We can’t see it in version 184.108.40.206 or 220.127.116.11 of the app, so you may not want to hold your breath just yet. The new memory management menu provides a more detailed overview of what is taking up memory on your phone. Some of the more notable ways to do this are to view large / forwarded files and suggest files for deletion. But the previous option of displaying memory usage via chat is still available.
These latest additions complement several other new features made available to WhatsApp in 2020 such as: B. more participants in video / audio calls, advanced search functions and a dark mode.
