Watering

ZZ plants are drought-tolerant and susceptible to overwatering, especially in hot weather. Water only when the top inch of soil feels completely dry.

Moisture

Sticking your finger into the soil is the best way to check for moisture. If the soil feels even slightly damp, do not water just yet.

Light

ZZ plants prefer bright indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Don't keep it in harsh midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Temperature

While ZZ plants can withstand some heat, extreme temperatures can stress them. Aim for temperatures between 18°C and 24°C.

Humidity

ZZ plants can tolerate average household humidity, but dry summer air can brown the tips of the leaves. Mist the plant occasionally to increase humidity.

Fertiliser

ZZ plants are not heavy feeders. During the active growing season, fertilise them once a month with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser.

Inspection

Keep an eye out for common houseplant bugs like mealybugs or spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Chemicals

ZZ plants are generally resistant to diseases. However, don't use harsh chemicals or cleaning products on your plant, as these can damage the leaves.
