WandaVision Writer Reveals the Grief-Stricken Reason Why Evan Peters Replaced Quicksilver

Writer Jac Schaeffer, who has now led three screenwriting projects for Marvel, including WandaVision and the next one Black Widow ultimately cleared the speculation behind the casting of Evan Peters as the Hex incarnation of Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver. WandaVision kicked off Phase IV of the MCU with a unique and different take on its first farewell season with an emotional climax and a blazing post-credits scene. Throughout its race, WandaVision introduced us to new characters, new storylines, and a stunning cameo.

In the fifth episode of WandaVision, Evan Peters made an appearance as Quicksilver, Wanda’s late brother, but now “recast” from an earlier portrayal of the character by Aaron-Taylor Johnson. Evan Peters’ cameo sparked rumors about the Marvel Cinematic Universe merging with the X-Men for the first time since Disney (the parent company of Marvel Studios) acquired the franchise. This led to fans exploding their excitement on social media as well as dozens of theories surrounding the continued inclusion of X-Men in the MCU and how the multiverse would conceptualize itself in the franchise.

But, it was later revealed that Evan was actually playing Ralph Bohner, a Westview resident who Agatha magically manipulated to “play” a “fake Pietro” to reveal how Wanda was able to hold such a grand illusion in. the Hex. Fans were obviously disappointed that the cameo couldn’t spawn anything fruitful according to their speculations. But, in an interview with the Empire podcast, WandaVision Showrunner Jac Schaeffer has revealed that Evan Peters’ casting as Quicksilver is more than just a joke.

Speaking about Evan Peters coming to the MCU, Schaeffer said it was meant to signify how grief can cloud memory and judgment. Schaeffer said.

“We brought in a bereavement counselor [writers] room, and we did some research on grief, and there’s a lot about how people remember faces. The anguish of not remembering the faces of your loved ones, of poorly remembering or actively remembering things as a self-preservation tactic – all of this became fascinating to us, and we thought that by throwing away Evan [Peters] in the role, it would not only have that effect on Wanda, but it would also have that meta-layer for the audience as well. “

As WandaVision progressed over the course of the nine weeks, we witnessed some major emotional turnarounds in Wanda’s life, which led her to create a whole reality of her own. The show took us back to her past traumas and how she was never able to find peace given the loss of her parents, brother, and ultimately Vision. The scene where Wanda creates Vision out of Grief was truly heartfelt and connecting, giving the character of Wanda greater prominence in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In fact, it is a psychological fact that people often tend to cloud their judgment and memories to cope with the grief of lost loved ones, even forgetting their voices. Wanda notices this on the show when she points out how her brother’s accent has changed. Earlier, series director Matt Shakman said in an interview that he didn’t expect Peters’ cameo to spark X-Men speculation.

Well, maybe he and the writers underestimate fans’ commitment to the lore of the MCU and the depth of its characters. WandaVision also introduced the public to Wiccan and Speed, Wanda’s children, and gave multiple references to supervillain Mephisto, who further gathered more theories regarding his possible appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While the character of Evan Peters has been pretty much short lived on the show, we never know what might come out of the fascinating minds of the writers and creators of Marvel Studios.

WandaVision the scenario is not yet finished. The show will bond with the Doctor Strange sequel and may have links to the upcoming Disney + series, Loki, which will also bind with the first. WandaVision is currently available to stream exclusively on Disney +. This news comes from the Empire Online podcast.
