The UPSC Civil Services Exam is a national-level competitive exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission to recruit candidates for the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service. This year, the UPSC Civil Service prelims exam 2024 is going to be held on 16th June 2024 (Sunday) in two shifts from 9:30 am to 11:30 am from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
UPSC CSE Prelims Admit Card 2024 has been released by UPSC on its official website https://upsc.gov.in/. UPSC Admit Card is an authority letter that allows the candidates to appear for the exam. Candidates are required their Registration Number or Roll Number and date of Birth to download their respective admit cards.
UPSC Prelims Admit Card 2024 Out
All exam relation information including exam timing, reporting time, exam center etc are released along with the UPSC Prelims Admit Card 2024. Candidates must carry a UPSC Admit Card (printout) along with the photo identity card (original), whose number is specified in the e-admit Card, during each session to appear for the examination.
Through the UPSC CSE 2024 exam, a total of 1056 vacancies will be filled for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Police Service (IPS), and the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). The selection process for the said posts includes the Prelims, Mains, and Interview rounds.

Steps to Download UPSC CSE Prelims Admit Card 2024
Candidates can download their UPSC CSE Prelims Admit Card from the official website of UPSC by following the steps given below.
- Visit the official website of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) i.e. https://upsc.gov.in/.
- Click on the ‘Admit Cards’ link that appears on the right side of the homepage.
- Click on E-Admit Cards for various examinations of UPSC.
- Now click on e-Admit Card, Download displayed in front of “Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (सिविल सेवा (प्रारंभिक) परीक्षा) 2024”.
- A new page opens, again click on “Click Here”.
- An instruction pdf opens, take a printout of the pdf as it is mandatory.
- Now click ‘By Registration ID’ or ‘By Roll Number’.
- Enter the details required i.e. Registration Number/ Roll Number and Date of Birth, captcha, and click on ‘Submit’.
- UPSC CSE prelims admit card PDF along with complete exam-related information appears on the screen.
- Download and take printouts of admit cards to carry to the exam hall and for other future purposes.
UPSC CSE Exam Day Instructions
Candidates need to know the basic rules and behavior expected during the UPSC Civil Services Exam at the exam center. Here’s a summary of all the instructions for the UPSC CSE exam.
- During each session of the UPSC Exam, candidates must ensure they have their UPSC Admit Card with them.
- The admit card should be kept safely with the candidate until the selection process ends which is till the final results are announced.
- Candidates need to arrive at the UPSC CSE exam center 30-40 minutes before the scheduled time. This allows for a smooth process and gives ample time for security checks.
- Visually challenged and orthopedically challenged candidates should enter the exam centers with their valid admit cards and an admit card for their respective scribe.
- Candidates are prohibited from bringing any electronic devices such as mobile phones, smart watches, calculators, pen drives, cameras, Bluetooth devices, or any other communication tools into the examination venue, even if they are switched off. If any candidate is found with such devices during the examination, disciplinary action will be taken, which may result in a ban from future attempts at the exam.
- The use of unfair means inside the examination hall is strictly prohibited like carrying chits, talking, etc.
- The candidates are allowed to mark their answers on the OMR sheet only with a black ballpoint pen. The answers marked by any other color pen will not be checked.

UPSC CSE Exam Pattern 2024
Understanding the exam pattern provides insights into the nature of the exam and the topics that will be covered. This understanding will help in creating a well-organized study plan, allowing candidates to allocate appropriate time to each section based on its weightage in the exam.
There are 2 papers in the UPSC Prelims Exam: GS Paper 1 and GS Paper 2 (CSAT). The CSAT Paper (GS Paper 2) is qualifying, and candidates need to score at least 33% to qualify. The prelims cut-off is calculated based on GS Paper 1 only.
