UFC fighter pulled from Saturday’s card after positive Covid-19 test
Souza had to fight Uriah Hall in a middleweight fight. In addition, its two cornermen have also tested positive for Covid-19, said the UFC.
“The UFC medical team examined Souza and his two cornermen and found them to be currently asymptomatic, or lacking the common symptoms of Covid-19,” the UFC said in a statement on its website. “In accordance with UFC health and safety protocols, the three men have left the host hotel and will isolate themselves, where the UFC medical team will monitor their conditions remotely and provide a assistance with any necessary treatment. ”

The UFC said the three followed health and safety protocols, including the practice of social distancing, wearing personal protective equipment and self-isolation as much as possible. No other positive Covid-19 tests were reported among participants in UFC 249.
“The response to this development is indicative of the effectiveness of the health and safety measures that the UFC has put in place for this event,” said the UFC.
