Trevor Noah To Personally Pay Salaries Of Furloughed Daily Show Staff
Like many talk show hosts these days, Trevor Noah from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show broadcast from his home, starring what’s now called The Daily Social Distancing Show with Trevor Noah. But just because the show has a slightly different name doesn’t mean that crew members who are no longer able to work on the show in its new form are stuck without pay, because Variety reports that Noah covers their salaries personally.
A source tells Variety:
“These are the people who participated in the show with Trevor from day one and helped him present the show … Trevor personally covers their salaries until the production company reopens. He respects his team tremendously and feels it is fair that they are getting through this together. “
Not all The Daily Show the staff are unemployed, of course, because writers, producers and “some production staff” can do their work remotely. But Noah is stepping up to cover the salaries of these 25 workers – like camera and sound technicians, stage managers, etc. – who are not able to work on the new remote version of the program.
The Daily Show is currently doing very well in its quarantine incarnation, and Comedy Central recently announced that the normal half-hour show will extend to a 45-minute time interval.
