The fashion world mourns Virgil Abloh
Virgil Abloh has died aged 41. “For more than two years, Virgil valiantly battled a rare and aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma,” a statement read. “He has chosen to endure his battle in private since his diagnosis in 2019, undergoing many difficult treatments, while leading several important institutions that span fashion, art and culture.” Abloh was considered a game changer for the fashion industry, as the first black man to become LV’s creative director.
Amid the announcement, the fashion world paid many tributes to the designer. From Marc Jacob to Kim Jones, Gigi Hadid and more shared their condolences, as well as memories of the designer. “Virgil was not only a genius designer and a visionary, but he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom. The LVMH family joins me in this moment of great sadness, and we are all thinking of loved ones on the death of their husband, father, brother, son and friend,” said Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH.

Stars gather for the British Fashion Awards
The British Fashion Awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall, celebrating leaders in fashion and style. Stars flocked to the red carpet, including Dua Lipa, Precious Lee, Gabrielle Union and more, wearing Maximilian, H&M and Valentino respectively. Among the winners of the evening were Alessandro Michele for the Trailblazer Award and Kim Jones for Designer of the Year. Leaders of Change, Creativity winners include Virgil Abloh, Alessandro Michele, Demna Gvasalia, Kim Jones and Jonathan Anderson.
British vogue Editor and European Editorial Director Edward Enninful read a tribute to the late Virgil Abloh, who died the day before the event. “As a black man in a French luxury house, I am well aware of my responsibilities. Rather than preaching about it, I hope to lead by example and open the door for future generations. I believe in making my mark with confidence, style and grace.

LV publishes a show in tribute to Virgil Abloh
Louis Vuitton pays tribute to the late Virgil Abloh by presenting its latest fashion show. “Virgil was here” was one of Abloh’s “spin-off” shows, featuring a collection of his later SS22 pieces. Celebrities, muses and friends of Abloh attended, including Edward Enninful, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, among others. “If there were moments of dark emotion among the guests, the atmosphere was far from funereal,” said Chantal Fernandez, for fashion company. “There were laughs. There were long hugs. And there was no shortage of bold looks, with many attendees paying homage in their best Abloh-designed pieces.
Abloh’s family requested that the show continue, despite his passing, to ensure that the show would celebrate his accomplishments as an entertainer. A giant three-story statue has been erected of the late designer. Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke shared a speech before the show started. “He used the platform he had to break boundaries, open doors, shine a light on his creative passions – art, design, music and of course fashion – so that everyone could see inside,” he said. “Not only to dream of being part of this world, but also to find ways to make that dream a reality.”

Bella Hadid joins the Victoria’s Secret collective
Bella Hadid returns to Victoria’s Secret, but not as an angel. The model is the newest member of the VS collective and joins Hailey Bieber, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Naomi Osaka and more. She previously paraded for the lingerie brand’s fashion shows for three years. However, she left due to alleged sexual harassment by one of the brand’s top executives, who has since resigned. Hadid returns to VS as she believes the brand has changed and is no longer a “men-run for men” brand. “I feel empowered again,” she shared with Marie Claire. “I feel empowered in lingerie instead of feeling like my body is some kind of money-spinner.”
