Even if we all wanted to become a star when we were children, we now know that becoming known very young is rarely a blessing. There are child stars with a tragic destiny (those who die of overdose at 25) but also child actors who have been forgotten because their careers ended as quickly as they had begun. And then there are the kids who succeed and experience fame without problems for many years.
1. Freddie Highmore
Freddie Highmore starts acting in films at the age of 7 and is revealed thanks to the film neverland where he plays Peter. The following year, he became world famous thanks to his performance in Charlie and the chocolate factory alongside Johnny Depp and in Arthur and the Invisibles by Luc Besson. Zendaya is among the Disney Channel revelations of the 2010s and begins to star in the series shake it up at 13 before continuing with KC Undercover. 5. Shirley Temple
Shirley Temple is not just any child star: she is the very first child star to achieve international fame. In the 1930s and 1940s, Shirley was the icon of little girls: there was a children’s magazine about her life and hundreds of derivative objects bearing her image. To give you an idea of her fame, tell yourself that she was invited (at the age of 9) to come and cut the birthday cake of the President of the United States. Unlike many child stars of the 1930s, Shirley did not become addicted to drugs or alcohol and decided to end her film career around the age of 20. She then became involved in politics and was appointed United States delegate to the United Nations. The incredible Shirley also does prevention without fear of controversy: she is the first woman to speak openly about breast cancer.
6. Jean-Baptiste Maunier
You necessarily remember Jean-Baptiste Maunier, the little blond who sings like an angel in the film The chorists. Today, the darling child of the French is over 30 years old and is the father of a little boy. He plays occasionally in films and series but is also a model for Next Model and Versace. A bit classy though.
7. Taylor Momsen
Taylor Momsen became internationally famous at the age of 7 when The Grinch is released in cinemas and becomes a cult film of the Christmas period. She then chained small roles before being taken to play Jenny Humpfrey in the series gossip girl. At the same time as filming, Taylor set up her rock band The Pretty Reckless, which became world famous. A few years later, she decided to quit acting and modeling to focus on her music, which is still a hit.
8. Cole Sprouse
You must know Cole Sprouse for one of his major roles: Ben Geller in FriendsCody Martin in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody or Jughead Jones in Riverdale. Over the years, the child star has become an established actor and a professional photographer. The guy has talent.
9. Kirsten Dunst
After several small roles, Kirsten Dunst was discovered by the general public at the age of 12 in Interview with a Vampire. She then plays in Jumanji, Virgin Suicides and gets the role of Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Today, she still has a string of hit movies and has won a bunch of awards.
10. Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo DiCaprio is a huge star and we could see that it was quite rare not to “turn badly” when one is so famous and exposed to all the vices. Yet Leonardo remained true to himself; he also claimed never to have touched drugs although he grew up in a rather disreputable neighborhood.
