Top 10 bands who actually hated each other

Setting up a music group is a great adventure: we get together with friends, we give each other roles, we find a group name, we rehearse, we resume, we compose, we rehearse again and then we play in front of people. The dream, what. And then from time to time, it turns into a nightmare: we take the lead, we don’t understand each other, we fight to be a leader, we criticize the work of others, and, eventually, we fuck the bassist’s girl. In summary, having a band is one of the best things that can exist, except when it becomes the worst thing that can exist. And it often happens. Even in the most legendary bands. Even in those who hid it well.

1. One Direction

Bad news for the Directioners: the One D couldn’t kill themselves. If we are to believe the words of Liam Payne, ex-member of the group, he and his former pals were often ready to come to blows behind the scenes as their rivalry had swelled (surely at the same speed as their respective melons). Apparently, it was especially between Zayn and Liam that it heated the most, but anyway today people don’t care since everyone has eyes only for this good Harry Styles, on top of the hype.

2. Oasis

For once, the Gallagher brothers had a hard time hiding their rivalry. We are not going to go into the details (for that, you can see the tops of the worst brothers in history or the insults of the Gallaghers), but what must be remembered is that they could not piffrer and both wanted to be the leader of Oasis. It started in big fight several times, in particular at Rock en Seine in 2009, the day when they decided to separate definitively, as well musically as humanly. Because yeah, a priori, the guys will never spend Christmas (Gallagher lol) together again.

3. Guns N’ Roses

There is a little clue to know if things are going badly in a group: the turnover of zikos. And at the Guns, it turned out a lot. If Axl Rose has always been there (normal, the group bears his name), more than 20 musicians have succeeded in thirty years. It’s a lot. The fault with the behavior of diva of Axl Rose and also with the problems of dope of some other members. The biggest rivalry within the band was between Axl and Slash, the legendary guitarist who left in 1996. Axl even called him “cancer” in an interview, which didn’t bother them. not prevented from patching things up 20 years later before resuming the tours together. It’s beautiful when it ends well.

4. The Police

Under their appearance of wise children of music, the members of The Police were however confused from the beginning. To be more precise, it was Sting and Stewart Copeland who puffed their faces under the somewhat passive eye of third member Andy Summers. The leader/composer/writer didn’t get along with the virtuoso drummer because Copeland had dared to want to write songs too. Sting was never shy about saying that he didn’t want Stewart to write because his lyrics sucked, and Copeland revealed he imagined hitting Sting on the head when he hit his drum toms. . Good atmosphere. Suddenly, the group separated – without ever really announcing it – around 1984, before relaunching for a tour in 2007. Was the atmosphere better? No way. The guys continued to butt heads behind the scenes, and Copeland claimed The Police would never get back together. At least like that, it’s clear.

5. The Clash

What happens when, in a punk band, the guitarist wants to do hip-hop and the bassist wants to play reggae? Well it clashes (sorry, it had to be done). While the group was already struggling to assume its popularity which had just exploded, the differences on the musical future of the group screwed up the shit. If we add to that the presence of Bernie Rhodes, the manager, who wanted to control everything, we arrive at a rotten cocktail of bad vibes that split the group barely 10 years after its creation. It’s sad, but that’s also punk.

6. Les Rolling Stones

Within the Stones, two elements have always had a complicated relationship: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The two often oscillated between best friends and worst enemies, even if on stage nothing was reflected. Until the day Keith Richards crossed a line in 2010 by telling, in a book, that Jagger had a small dick and gave no pleasure to his ex Marianne Faithful. Jagger demanded an apology, Richards gave it, and the two have since become good friends again. Anyway, at their age, it’s bad to argue.

7. The Pixies

The reason for the tensions that existed within the Pixies is very simple, if very silly: the group’s leader, Black Francis, was jealous of the fans’ love for bassist Kim Deal. Like a child jealous of having to share the love of mom with his sister, the singer preferred to fire Kim from the group rather than accept that we could love her. The problem is that after that, the path of the Pixies got bogged down and the group had to break up in 1993… before returning in 2004 with Kim Deal behind the big guitar.

8. Les Beatles

Towards the end of the 1960s, relations within the Beatles started to get all rotten. One of the first explanations for this is the fact that John Lennon fell madly in love with Yoko Ono and brought her back to the band’s sessions, something that is not normally done (it’s like that, we don’t bring people from outside the group at rehearsals). In addition to this, a rivalry began to emerge between Lennon and McCartney, with the two believing themselves to be the sole leader of the group, and Lennon finding McCartney’s compositions to be inferior to his own. In short, it was really not the joy, and this, until the separation of the group in 1970.

9. The Smashing Pumpkins

Relations within the Smashing Pumpkins began to deteriorate around the time of the recording of the second album, Siamese Dream. This is where frontman Billy Corgan decided to reveal his true tyrant nature by forcing others to rehearse for hours and recording all parts of the album himself, relegating others to the background. . To this already not pretty pretty climate were added overdoses by several members of the group who quietly led the Pumpkins to their end in 2000.

10. Simon and Garfunkel

Come on, we end with one last battle of egos. For once, it’s easy to know who, within the group, got confused, since they were only two. And the cause of the confusion between Simon and Garfunkel, it was mainly the individualism of Garfunkel, very interested in the idea of making a career in the cinema behind Simon’s back, and guilty of having withdrawn the voices of his poto of an album to finally release it solo. Inevitably, all this did not please Simon who took a long time to forgive him. We wouldn’t have said, like that, with their very soft voices…
