Tiger Woods is coming to the Ozarks as his first public golf course opens

Instead, it’s the home of the first public Woods-designed golf course – based in Ridgedale, Missouri near the Ozark Mountains – that will host an international Ryder Cup-style charity match as a curtain-raiser.

The Payne’s Valley Cup will take place at the Payne’s Valley Course at Big Cedar Lodge and will be played between Team USA versus Team Europe on September 22, three days before the Ryder Cup – which has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic – was scheduled to take place.

Woods is partnering with Justin Thomas on the US team and the pair will face Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy who make up the European team.

All four contestants have been world No.1, are major champions, have won the FedExCup, and been on winning Ryder Cup teams.

“Payne’s Valley is the first public golf course I have designed. I am delighted that it will be presented at the Payne’s Valley Cup.

“The breathtaking beauty and sheer majesty of my native Ozarks is something you have to see to believe. Being able to harness this unique landscape and bring it to life through our golf courses has been an honor that was motivated by passion, ”said Johnny Morris, leading conservationist and founder of Bass Pro Shops and Big Cedar Lodge.

“Tiger and I have a 20 year friendship that started with fishing and has grown into a great partnership. We look forward to introducing this destination to the world through the Payne’s Valley Cup and are confident that we are on the way. to create ‘America’s Next Great Golf Destination.’

Woods has designed many courses already, but this will be the first course the 82-time PGA Tour winner has designed and will be open to the public.

However, for this match no tickets will be available for fans due to Covid-19, although all four players are mic throughout the match.
