Thorgan Ganael Francis Hazard professionally known as Thorgan Hazard is a Belgian professional football player who plays for German club Borussia Dortmund and the Belgium national team as an attacking midfielder or as a winger. He began his football career playing for hometown club Royal Stade Brainois at age five. After spending five years at the club, he moved to the youth team of Tubize in 2003 and played until 2007. In 2007, at age 14, he was discovered by French club Lens while playing for Tubize in a local tournament and began his professional career from there. On 7 April 2010, he signed his first professional contract after agreeing to a three-year deal until June 2013. He made his professional debut in Lens’ opening league match of the season against Reims. On 24 July 2012, he signed for Chelsea for a fee of € 500 thousand and made his debut on 17 August 2012 in an Under-21 Premier League match. On 30 August 2012, he was sent on a season-long loan move to Belgian Pro League club Zulte Waregem and made his debut on 15 September 2012. On 5 July 2014, he was loaned to Borussia Monchengladbach of the German Bundesliga for the 2014-15 season and made his debut for the club on 16 August 2014. On 23 February 2015, he agreed to sign permanently for Borussia Monchengladbach, effective from 1 July. He signed a 5-year contract until June 2020 where the transfer fee was reported as €8 million, 16 times as much as Chelsea paid for him. He made 119 appearances and scored 30 goals for Borussia Monchengladbach. On 22 May 2019, he joined Borussia Dortmund on a five-year contract for a reported fee of €25.5 million.

  • He began his football career playing for hometown club Royal Stade Brainois at age five.

  • In 2007, at age 14, he was discovered by French club Lens while playing for Tubize in a local tournament and began his professional career from there. On 7 April 2010, he signed his first professional contract after agreeing to a three-year deal until June 2013.
  • On 8 August 2010, he made his amateur debut in a 2-0 victory over Drancy, appearing as a substitute. On 9 May 2011, he was named to the senior team for the first time on 11 May in a Ligue 1 match against Bordeaux.
