While we anticipate that Season 5 will open with the Big Three’s 40th anniversary, it has also been said that this may not be the case.
“When Dan [Fogelman] think you get it, he often likes to flip it a bit “, Sterling K. Brown Told Weekly entertainment about the creator of the show. “So whether or not this is the first of Season 5 of our anniversary remains to be seen.”

The entire cast should return (and include new faces).
Season 4 started off with the introduction of many new characters, so Season 5 should also offer a mix of familiar faces and exciting newcomers. The staples of the show — Sterling (Randall), Chrissy metz (Kate), Chris Sullivan (Toby), Milo Ventimiglia (Jack), and Mandy Moore (Rebecca) — will certainly be present. In the meantime, we will continue to seek clues from actors joining the cast.
Season 5 is the penultimate season of the show.
We hate to see it go, but all good things must come to an end. We know this because showrunner Isaac Aptaker said previously the team was working on “three seasons in the future” during the broadcast of season 3.
“I hope that when we reach our end, people will think that this is a really satisfying final place that makes sense, and it feels like we have watched something that is a complete job because it is really as we try to plan it, “Isaac told Deadline. “We have been thinking about this for a long time, so we can plan and try to give the impression that it is a whole, as opposed to a series that will go on indefinitely.”
We will see less of Jack’s character in future seasons.
As much as we love Milo, the showrunners said it was time to focus on the intrigue of the other characters. In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Dan Fogelman told us that most of Jack’s story was told in season 3.
“We’re starting to head into new chapters … with the Big Three,” he said of season 4. “Some of the most mysterious or dramatic prints in the series may start to fall between hands of some of our other characters. “
Season 5 will focus on “new starts”.
According to what Dan said People after the season 4 finale, fans should expect the main theme for next season to be “birth and rebirth”.
“I’m very excited, especially with where the world is right now, the rise, and I would almost call it a rebirth, which will come next season … There is going to be something big in the premiere of the season, “he added.
The focus will be on Rebecca’s past.
With an upcoming move to St. Louis to begin the Alzheimer’s clinical trial and the fallout from his two sons, Dan said that Matriarch Pearson was in a “difficult chapter”. That said, this will also be the time to learn more about the emerging relationship between Miguel and Rebecca.
“When we land in Saint-Louis with her, sort of exploring with Miguel … Here is the occasion when we will bring them together and undergo this treatment that they did not necessarily intend to try”, Dan explained. “It will also allow us to move towards, which has always been the plan in the back part of our series, to better understand how their relationship flourished, then stopped, then flourished again and really entered their lives. “
Randall and Kevin won’t heal right away.
In the season 4 finale, Randall and Kevin engaged in a nasty verbal fight. Unfortunately, Justin Hartley Told Weekly entertainment that fans shouldn’t expect the two brothers to reconcile immediately.
“It may take a little while. But they are brothers, it will not divide them before their death beds and they will not speak,” Justin said. “That’s how I understood it. But I think it’s going to take a while.”
A darker time for Kate is likely to come.
Talking to Deadline, Chrissy revealed that she and Dan have been talking about exploring other secrets from Kate’s past in season 5. And what viewers will see will likely be difficult.
“We’re going to find out even more in-depth next season to find out why she decided not to necessarily use food, but to use a substance – hers being food – because she experienced things that we don’t have, we don’t “don’t know [about] again.”
