Wrestling superstar Paul Wight is set to bring back Captain Insano, the fictional professional wrestler he played in The Waterboy. Formerly known as the WWE Big Show, Wight transitioned to the competing wrestling organization All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in February. Now under his real name, Wight’s AEW contract will include a casual match in addition to working as a commentator.
Speaking about the latest developments in his wrestling career on AEW star Miro’s YouTube channel, Wight revealed that Captain Insano “may return.” As it turns out, AEW: All Elite Struggles Leader Tony Khan is actively pursuing usage rights The Waterboy character. So as long as Khan and AEW get the necessary legal permissions to use the gadget, Wight says he’s totally on board to resurrect Captain Insano for an AEW race. From the interview:
“Well here’s the thing, Tony Khan is really good friends with Frank, one of the writers or creators of [The] Waterboy. The character of Captain Insano, I think Tony is doing his best to get the rights and do something with it. I said to Tony, ‘If you get Captain Insano I’m going to shake those still loving breasts. “Dude, I’m going to get the red boots and the whole nine yards. “Captain Insano shows no mercy, brother! I’ll have fun with this. This is one of those that would make a super fun gig and make Captain Insano pop every once in a while. “
Wight is probably referring to Frank Coraci, the director of The Waterboy, as Khan’s friend who can help AEW secure the rights of Captain Insano. Either way, Wight has revealed how even Hulk Hogan saw money in the Captain Insano gadget many years ago, as another recent interview with Renee Paquette revealed about it. Oral sessions Podcast. In fact, Wight believes that Hogan’s similar American-themed parody character Mr. America was likely based on Captain Insano’s design.
“You know what’s funny? When I did The Waterboy years ago, Hogan actually said, ‘Brother, you should come back to this, this stuff is money. Captain Insano, this is my. silver brother. I think the reason he made Mr. America is because he was in love with Captain Insano. “
In The Waterboy, Captain Insano is portrayed as the favorite professional wrestler of Bobby Boucher (Adam Sandler). Bobby calls Captain Insano in a particularly memorable scene to offer him his services as his personal water boy. The wrestler initially believes the appellant is a child, but begins to laugh uncontrollably with the wrestling announcer when Bobby reveals that he is, in fact, 31 years old. In another scene, Bobby gives another football player a look at WWE before delivering the line, “Captain Insano shows no mercy.”
Wight can be seen on the AEW programming on TNT as well as on the company’s YouTube series. AEW Dark: Elevation. If we’re lucky, we’ll see him again in American Tights soon as Captain Insano, reprising his iconic role as The Waterboy. You can check out Wight and Miro’s full interview on YouTube.
