The Top 20 Best Fast and Furious Cars Franchise

One of the best Hollywood film franchises ever created is Fast and Furious. This series is known for delivering on its premise and giving fans what they want: fast cars and furious action. Each movie features some of the best vehicles ever designed and manufactured. The Fast and Furious cars seen throughout the franchise are out of this world and vehicles most of us can only dream of ever driving.

Although the movie plots tend to be fairly predictable, no one knows what death-defying stunts will be shown or what cars will feature in these stunts, which makes these movies must watch. Without the cars, the Fast and Furious franchise wouldn’t be nearly as attention-worthy. Let’s face it, the actors play their part (Vin Diesel, The Rock, and Jason Statham, to name three), but it’s the cars that steal the show.

Since there are so many amazing cars that have been featured in these movies over the past 20 years, it is incredibly challenging to narrow down the best of the best. Yet, we have somehow managed to do just that. While we might have missed out on a few of your favorites, such as the Mazda RX 7 from The Fast and the Furious and the Aston Martin DB9 driven by Owen Shaw in Furious 7, we think the list we’ve assembled is pretty tight.

So here are our picks for the 20 best cars from the Fast and Furious franchise.

1. 1970 Dodge Charger

Our list wouldn’t mean much if we didn’t include Dominic Torreto’s 1970 Dodge Charger. This American muscle car is at the heart of the series and arguably the most iconic car driven by Torreto. Much of Torreto’s character is based around him owning this muscle car and the history of what it represents to him and his father.

Dom’s Charger is a fan favorite and, as such, is featured in The Fast and the Furious, Fast and Furious, Fast Five, and Furious 7.

The 1970 Dodge Charger featured in the first film is equipped with a custom engine that can reach an incredible horsepower rating of 900. Under the hood, there is a pro-built 528 cubic inch Chrysler Hemi engine with aluminum Indy competition cylinder heads.

Perhaps its most distinguishable feature is its electronic fuel injection, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, and NOS HP plate nitrous injection system. In addition to these exemplary features, the 1970 Dodge Charger can race the quarter-mile in less than nine seconds.

2. Toyota Supra

If you’re a car enthusiast you know all about this beast from the Fast Furious franchise. One of the most recognizable tuner cars from the series is Brian O’Conner’s bright orange Toyota Supra. In The Fast and the Furious, O’Conner brings the car back to life in Dominic Toretto’s garage, and this action plays an integral role in building a bond between the two main characters. The Supra even pops up in Fast Five and is driven by Roman Pierce (Tyrese Gibson) along with a lot of the crew while practicing driving for the bank heist.

The car proves its worth and solidifies its legendary status when seen racing and beating a Ferrari F355 Spider on its maiden drive. It’s believed that the original Toyota Supra Mk-IV, which is equipped with the 2JZ engine, could produce a horsepower rating of 540.

Interestingly this car could reach 62 mph in just 4.3 seconds and its top speed could reach 186 mph when the NOS system was equipped.

The Honda Acura NSX is iconically driven by Dominic Toretto’s sister Mia in Fast and Furious and Fast Five. This vehicle is rear-wheel-drive with a six-speed manual transmission that has stylish red leather seats.

Fans fell in love with the Honda Acura NSX when it appeared as one of the vehicles rescuing Dom after being sentenced to 25 years in prison during the Fast and Furious movie. Curiously, the Honda Acura NSX’s stock configuration is powered by an impressive C32B V-6 engine capable of producing a horsepower rating of 290. What many people don’t know is that the Honda Acura NSXs used for the film are heavily modified. They are equipped with NSX-R suspension and other upgrades that boosted its horsepower rating further.

4. Pontiac Fiero

In the latest installment of the franchise, it can be said that the modified Pontiac Fiero steals the show. Although this classic car is not everyone’s cup of tea, it plays a significant role in the latest film. In fact, the 1984 Pontiac Fiero jet car is seen in one of the most heartwarming scenes during Fast 9

It is up to Roman and Tej to save the world when they have to use the Pontiac Fiero to drive into a satellite set to destroy the earth with nothing but their car. Taj and Roman are prepared to sacrifice themselves during this scene which is why it’s memorable.

However, many think the Pontiac Fiero is the most ridiculous car to be featured in one of the films of this franchise, but we’re of the opposite opinion. Although this vehicle is essentially a rocket with a classic car body attached to it, it’s still worthy of attention because of its uniqueness.

5. Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R

Did you know that the Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R is the first skyline model to bear the GT-R badge? It’s no wonder this classic muscle car found its way into the Fast and Furious franchise.

Ironically, this car is driven by Brian after the memorable scene where he and Mia rescue Dom while he’s being taken to prison. Although the vehicle makes only a minor appearance during the Fast Five movie, it deserves to be on our list because due to its performance specifications.

This muscle car has a 2.0-liter DOHC straight-six engine which allows it to produce a horsepower rating of 160. Yet, the film’s version features a twin-cam 2.0-liter inline-six engine with rear drive. Additionally, this car has a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of 3.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of more than 203 mph.

6. Honda S2000

Are you aware the Honda S2000 featured in The Fast and the Furious movie is rented from R.J. Vera, who played Danny Yamato? It is driven by Rick Yune who played baddie Johnny Tran in the film. This same car was purchased by David Marder for the film 2 Fast 2 Furious and repurposed for the character Suki.

Suki drives the bright pink Honda S2000 during a race hosted by Tej. For much of the scene, the Honda S2000 is in last place but manages to pull off a miracle during a jump scene that sees the vehicle coming in first.

The Honda S2000 features a set of custom hot pink vinyl. It is equipped with a 2.2-liter aluminum alloy DOHC inline 4 engine and has a Comptech supercharger. It can reach 174 mph and has a maximum horsepower output of 237.

7. Buick Grand National

The Buick Grand National features in the fourth Fast and Furious movie and is a custom build. This vehicle has a fully reversed drive train, which is why it could pull off the tanker truck scene so effortlessly.

During this scene, Dom can be seen driving the Buick Grand National in reverse while maintaining a high speed. He continues driving in reverse until the dramatic explosion at the end. Even though the vehicle looks normal on the outside, it is different on the inside from other Buick Grand Nationals.

The Buick Grand National seen in the film has its engine situated in the vehicle’s trunk, with the rear axle moved to under the hood by using custom tubed subframes. The modifications don’t end there. A new wheel and pedal were also installed for a stunt driver in the rear seat area.

Did you know the Ford GT40 driven in Fast Five is not an actual Ford GT40 but a replica? The replica model features heavily during the film’s train heist scene at the movie’s start.

The Ford GT40 replica from the film was auctioned in 2016. It is a right-hand drive and features the signature Guardsman Blue and Wimbledon White exterior that car enthusiasts know and love. Additionally, this car is built on a custom chassis and has body panels made out of fiberglass.

The vehicle’s power made it a prominent focal point during the movie. It is equipped with a Ford 4.7 liter V8 engine that can deliver 540 horsepower. It has a five-speed manual transmission and can reach a top speed of approximately 164 mph.

One of the most memorable cars from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is the 1967 Ford Mustang. Yet, were you aware that the 1967 Ford Mustang models in the Justin Lin directed Tokyo Drift were built using 1968 models?

This car is famous because of the scene where Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) drives it during his race with Takashi down a mountain he has never been beaten on. There are multiple close calls during this scene, but Sean manages to secure victory with the Mustang while Takashi doesn’t fare as well.

Another interesting aspect of the 1967 models is that it took the film’s production team an estimated two months to fit Nissan Skyline GT-R engines into them. Perhaps one of the most impressive things to note about the 1967 Ford Mustangs used in this film is that each of them survived without being destroyed during filming.

Moreover, it’s believed that five of the six 1967 Ford Mustangs used during the film were sold to buyers in California. These models had quite a few upgrades, including a rear roll cage, seven-spoke wheels, racing seats, and a front-mounted intercooler.

In Fast 9, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator plays a prominent role in the movie. It is well known for being one of the most capable mid-size trucks globally, and it got promoted to one of the most iconic cars in the world after it became one of the Fast Furious movie cars.

Tej Parker drives this vehicle during the scene where he and Ramsey flee the crash site of Mr. Nobody after they are ambushed by the military, who were guarding the area. Fans are on the very edges of their seats while the Jeep Gladiator is driven through a field of landmines where it could not be driven more than 80 mph.

Interestingly, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator would not have been able to drive much faster than it did during this scene because it has a top speed of 97 mph.

One of the greatest hero cars from the Fast and Furious franchise is the 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. This vehicle won the 2013 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational. Only seven cars in the entire world have ever held this title. That’s why it’s unsurprising that this vehicle made its way into The Fate of the Furious

This car features in the movie after fans find out that Dom betrayed his own team. Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) picks out the 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and the movie shows that modifications are being done to it. The car is then seen again during the major New York chase scene during the movie.

The 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray featured in this movie is equipped with a 6.4-liter engine with a maximum horsepower rating of 250 at 4,400 rpm. It is able to reach a fairly impressive top speed of 125 mph.

According to many fans, the Toyota GR Supra featured in Fast 9 is a homage to Paul Walker’s car in the first film. The Toyota GR Supra is decked out in bright orange and is driven by Han in one of the film’s best action scenes.

During the scene where the team equips huge electromagnets to their vehicles, the Toyota GR Supra can clearly be seen doing a nifty handbrake turn before reversing at high speeds to hook onto an armored truck.

The Toyota GR Supra is equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine that is capable of producing a horsepower rating of 258 at 5,000 rpm. Additionally, this vehicle has a top speed of 155 mph and can accelerate to 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds.

Although the 1973 Chevrolet Camaro only plays a minor role in the Fast and Furious movie, it makes an impact. This classic muscle car is driven by one of the bad guy’s men and used to chase Brian and Dom.

During the scene, Dom jumps into the Camaro from his Charger and uses it to escape from the tunnel and kill Fenix Calderon when he rams the car into him. The scene is all about getting justice for Letty, which is likely why it’s seen as one of the best cars from the franchise.

The 1973 Chevrolet Camaro is an F-bomb impersonater because of how rare the original 1973 Chevrolet Camaro is. Unlike the original Camaro F-bomb that was equipped with a twin-turbocharged 1500 horsepower V8 engine, the impersonator vehicle used during this scene has a GM 300 horsepower crate engine.

The armored Jeep Wrangler unlimited JK seen in the movie received many modifications that allowed it to achieve death-defying stunts while also achieving top speeds not usually seen with this vehicle model.

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK is a four-wheel-drive beast of a car that features a 3.6-liter V6 engine that can produce a horsepower rating of 285 at 6,400 rpm. It has an estimated top speed of 112 mph which is impressive when considering that it has a curb weight of 4,277 pounds.

It’s unlikely anyone can forget the Kawasaki green 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse tuner car that had a minor yet significant appearance in the original The Fast and the Furious film. The 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse is actually a customized car manufactured by Diamond Star Motors and Mitsubishi motors.

This race car is driven by Brian O’Conner during his preparation for his first-ever street race. Despite being unable to keep the car from spinning out of control, he still decides to race it to try and win the favor of Dominic Toretto. After the scene, O’Connor manages to win the street race, but he still loses control of the vehicle.

Besides its attractive exterior appearance, its performance specifications and capabilities allow this vehicle to make it onto our list. The 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse has a 420a 16 valve dual overhead cam 2.0-liter 4 cylinder engine. This engine is capable of producing a horsepower rating of 165.

Interestingly, this model has a 75 hp nitrous oxide system that was never fully installed, a custom carbon fiber front splitter, a custom GT style roof scoop, green neon lighting, and 1997 spec eclipse headlights.

Did you know the Ford Escort seen in Fast and Furious 6 had to be sourced and built-in Britain? This is because the American models were only manufactured as front-wheel-drive cars. These stunt cars were turned into 1972 RS1600 replicas.

This car might make a minor appearance in the film, but it is definitely memorable. The Ford Escort is seen completing a successful jump scene with Brian O’Connor at the steering wheel. During this scene, O’Connor uses the Ford Escort’s rally-spec suspension.

For this film, there were five Escorts assembled. Some feature 2.0-liter Vauxhall Redtop engines, while others have a 1.6-liter Ford Kent engine with DOHC Cosworth heads and double Weber carbs.

The hero car in Furious 7 is undoubtedly the 2014 W Motors Lykan Hypersport. This vehicle is the first hypercar produced by W Motors and is the most expensive car featured in the Fast and Furious franchise. There are only seven Lycan Hypersort’s ever made.

Dom infamously drives this hypercar through a building in Abu Dhabi while Brian tries to remove a chip that the crew needs. During this epic scene, Dom drives the 2014 W Motors Lykan Hypersport through a penthouse window.

There were 10 replicas of this car built for the movie, and by the end of filming, only one survived. Astonishingly the 2014 W Motors Lykan Hypersportias is able to reach 0 to 60 in less than three seconds.

As a tribute to the late Paul Walker who drove this vehicle, the Camaro Yenko was donated to the “Paul Walker Charity ROWW.”

In 2 Fast 2 Furious, Brian wins the Camaro Yenko after challenging two bad guys to a race between himself and Rome. He then uses this vehicle as a getaway car to escape the notice of the local police when they went to retrieve Verone’s money.

It’s believed that the Camaro Yenko featured in this film is equipped with a 427 V8 engine capable of producing a horsepower rating of 425.

The Dodge Challenger SRT-8 is driven by Dominic Torreto during Fast Five and Fast and Furious 6. In Fast Five, the Dodge Challenger SRT-8 isn’t used in any major action scenes, but Dom does race Brian with this vehicle.

In Fast and the Furious 6, Dom races his Dodge Challenger SRT-8 as fast as possible so as not to miss the birth of his sister and Brians’s child. Later in the same film, he drives this vehicle to deliver the news that Letty is still alive.

The Dodge Challenger SRT-8 is incredibly powerful and able to perform well during films because of its 6.4 V8 engine. These models have a top speed of 180 mph and a maximum horsepower rating of 470.

The 1968 Dodge Charger, also known as the “Hellacious Dodge Charger,” is not driven by one Toretto brother but two during Fast 9. Not many people are aware that Speedkore modified this vehicle, and unlike Dom’s other Chargers, this one has its engine centered in the middle.

The fan’s first glimpse of the 1968 Dodge Charger in the latest installment of the film franchise is seen when Dom is hunting the second half of Project Aries, but his brother Jakob beats him to it.

Yet, the more memorable scene where this vehicle is a primary focus is during the magnet scene when Dom uses the Charger to take out other vehicles and save his brother’s life. Interestingly, it isn’t until the end of the movie that Jakob (John Cena) drives the Charger when Dom gives it to him so that he can go into hiding.

The 1968 Dodge Charger is equipped with a cast-iron water-cooled V8 engine with a horsepower rating of up to 425 at 5,000 rpm. Additionally, this muscle car had a top speed of approximately 136 mph. This might be the coolest car in the series.
