San Diego Comic-Con announces the dates for their in-person event dubbed “Comic-Con Special Edition” will be from November 26-28, 2021.
San Diego Comic-Con 2021 will be held over Thanksgiving weekend. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, SDCC’s 2020 in-person event was canceled in favor of a virtual event that people could watch from the safety of their homes. While a good idea in theory, Comic-Con@Home ended up being a massive failure, with Marvel skipping the event and DC hosting their own event, DC FanDome, in August. At the beginning of the month, it was announced that SDCC would host another virtual event from July 23 to July 25 and an in-person event in November.
Now, the official dates for San Diego Comic-Con 2021’s in-person event have been revealed. Comic-Con has announced that their in-person event, dubbed “Comic-Con Special Edition,” will take place November 26-28, 2021. No further information along the lines of badge prices or attending celebrities has been announced.
Many were thrilled to hear that they could attend an in-person Comic-Con event in November, but these dates are sure to draw criticism. With the COVID-19 vaccines slowly but surely rolling out across the US, people can finally visit their families safely this holiday season. After a year of not seeing loved ones, it’s unlikely that the attendance of San Diego Comic-Con 2021 will be as high as past years. That being said, having the event over a holiday could be one way to limit the attendance capacity if there are still social-distancing guidelines in place in November. The coronavirus has proved to be anything but predictable, so it’s possible this date could move again. However, as of now, it seems like comic and movie fans will have to choose between their families and their favorite convention this year.
