Rachael Kirkconnell took to social media to defend Matt James from racist insults. She called the words fans were using about Matt “repulsive.”
Rachael Kirkconnell took to social media to defend her ex and former Bachelor Matt James after viewers attacked him using racial insults. After falling in love together on the show, Matt decided to break up with Rachael after several racially insensitive likes and photos resurfaced of her. She has since apologized on social media and TV during the After The Final Rose special with Emmanuel Acho as the host. Even though Rachael hoped for a reconciliation with Matt, she respected his decision not to continue a relationship with her.
During this past season of the ABC reality series, Matt fell head-over-heels for Rachael early on into the process. She was the only woman Matt even said “I love you” to towards the end of the season. At the AFTR special, Matt announced he and Rachael had parted ways, which took place shortly after hearing about the racially insensitive photos. He wanted to dispel them as just rumors, but once she took accountability for them, he couldn’t see himself being in a relationship with her anymore. Even though Rachael and Matt may no longer be together, they still care a great deal for each other.

In an Instagram Story on Wednesday, Rachael Kirkconnell called out people online in regards to their behavior towards Matt following The Bachelor finale. The 24-year-old was “taken aback” by all the racial insults directed towards Matt after he revealed he broke up with Rachael before the finale. “Some of the things I’ve seen being said to and about Matt are repulsive,” she wrote. “I respect the decisions that Matt has had to make during this experience. If you are directing hate towards him, please stop. Recognize someone’s humanity and think about the impact your words have.” Rachael even turned off the comment section on her most recent post, which is where most of the racial insults stemmed from.
Following the announcement of their break up, Matt appeared on Good Morning America, where he discussed Rachael and his decision to end their relationship. He said, “I know that Rachael’s a good person.” Matt said he knows Rachael’s heart and how dedicated she is to learning and growing from her past mistakes. As of now, Matt does not see himself getting back together with Rachael. Maybe once she has done the work she needs to do, he will consider a reconciliation.
Matt should be receiving nothing but love following the end of his journey as The Bachelor. He thought he found someone really special and was blindsided by the racial insensitivity she has shown with her past. This season was supposed to be a monumental season, but instead, it was overshadowed by controversy. Hopefully, Matt can move on from this experience and will get through this difficult time.
