Princess Anne Supports Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Exit
The royal release of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has been controversial among some royal fans and, according to anonymous royal “sources”, even among some members of the royal family. However, a royal supported the movement a lot: Harry’s aunt, Princess Anne.
- Everyone seems to have an opinion on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back from a senior and active member of the royal family.
- Although there have been rumors of less-than-happy responses from some members of the royal family, Harry’s aunt, Princess Anne, recently said publicly in an interview with royal correspondent Katie Nicholl on the royal exit.
- Anne said that she thought “most people would say there are drawbacks to having titles” and that the decision was the “right thing to do”.
Princess Anne (aka Anne, the Royal Princess) is the second child and the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and she is definitely Team Sussex. In a new interview with Vanity Fair (which happened just a month after Harry and Meghan announced their decision to retire from the
royal office), the royal made a firm statement about her nephew’s big move.
“I think it was probably easier for them, and I think most people would say there are drawbacks to having titles,” she told royal expert Katie Nicholl. “So I think it was probably the right thing to do.”
Anyone who knows the royal family well will not be surprised by Anne’s position, of course. Although she is still a working royal herself, she and her first husband, Mark Phillips, chose to break the royal tradition and refuse RHS titles for their children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall. Harry and Meghan, of course, made the same call when their son, Archie Harrison, was born in 2019, deciding not to give him a royal title.
It’s good to know that, no matter how many rumors of royal feuds have been linked to the release of Harry and Meghan, they have at least one parent who is firmly on their side.
