Paris Saint-Germain named French Ligue 1 champion after season cancelled
French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced Tuesday the cancellation of the Ligue 1 season by declaring that “the 2019-2020 season of professional sports, notably football, will not be able to resume”.
The title of the giants of French football is their third and seventh consecutive in eight years. PSG was 12 points above Marseille, second in the standings, when the season was suspended on March 13.

“We would like to dedicate this title of Ligue 1 2019-2020 to the health personnel and to all the everyday heroes on the front line whose commitment and self-sacrifice for many weeks have deserved our greatest admiration”, a said PSG president and chief executive officer Nasser Al-Khelaïfi Thursday after the announcement.
“We understand, respect and support the decisions made by the French government to end the championship. Health, as the government has always said, must be everyone’s priority.
“I would like to thank the players, the coach, the technical and medical staff and all the employees of the club for their wonderful work. This trophy recognizes their hard work every day.
“In these difficult times, I hope that this trophy will bring a little happiness and hope to all our supporters, and I am grateful for their unwavering support which contributes to advancing Paris Saint-Germain.”
