Greg is the protagonist of Out, the new short film by Pixar Animation Studios that introduces the first gay character in the history of the production house. He is a boy like many others, he has a happy family life, with his beloved puppy Jim, but he has a secret … He has not yet been outing with his parents and now that he has decided to move to the city with his boy Manuel, the time has come. Here then he nervously tests his coming out in front of his little dog. When the parents surprise him, just on the day of his move, Jim will help him. A touch of magic and Greg and Jim exchange their identity for a moment. And Greg learns the importance of being true to himself.
The film made its debut on Friday on Disney +, the new streaming platform dedicated to films and shows from Disney, Pixar, the Star Wars universe, National Geographic and Marvel.
Out it lasts nine minutes and is one of the seven short films on the program SparkShorts by Pixar, who tries to discover new storytellers and explore new storytelling techniques. It is also part of this series Kitbull, the short film that received an Oscar 2020 nomination and tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a ferociously independent stray kitten and a pit bull.
“These films are unlike any we’ve ever made, they offer an opportunity to unlock the potential of individual artists and their creative approaches to cinema on a smaller scale than the traditional one,” he said.
