A new image of Sam Neill hanging out with Jeff Goldblum is fueling rumors that Grandmaster will also be appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder.
A new image of Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum has people convinced that the Grandmaster will also appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. Chris Hemsworth teams up again with director Taika Waititi after the success of Thor: Ragnarok, and this time, they have a much bigger cast of characters. Aside from additions like Jane Foster, Lady Sif, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Gorr the God Butcher, the movie is also bringing back several players from its predecessor which may very well include Grandmaster.
Debuting in Thor: Ragnarok as the leader of Sakaar, the Grandmaster was also the host of the Contest of the Champions, the gladiator battle that Thor and Hulk found themselves in. He was last seen at the end of the same film left in the garbage planet after the people of Sakaar successfully staged a coup. It’s uncertain what happened to him following his defeat, but there’s mounting evidence pointing to the idea that he will somehow factor in the narrative for Thor: Love and Thunder.

Taking it to his official Instagram account, Neill shared an image of him and Goldblum enjoying a tour of Australia. While this could easily be just a simple photo of them hanging out, considering how the coronavirus pandemic has made international travel such a hassle, the fact that Goldblum is in the country is hinting that he may not only be there to be a tourist. Check out the photo below:
Prior to this snap, Goldblum was also spotted hanging out with the rest of the Thor: Love and Thunder cast, including Waititi. The group was catching a rugby match in Australia. Interestingly, it also featured Russell Crowe, and shortly after that, it was officially confirmed that he’s indeed boarded the film as well. Between the previous siting and this new one, it’s safe to assume that Goldblum will reprise his MCU role as the Grandmaster in some capacity in the upcoming blockbuster. While it’s uncertain how he can exactly rejoin Thor after his fate in Ragnarok, it’s possible that he ultimately found his way back to New Asgard, considering that it’s supposedly been more than five years since he was ousted in Sakaar.
Assuming that Grandmaster is indeed in Thor: Love and Thunder, don’t expect him to play a major role in the movie. As with guest appearances like the Guardians of the Galaxy, Matt Damon, and Neill, who returns as fake Odin, there’s a possibility that his involvement is just for a slightly longer cameo. This is to establish that continuity between the God of Thunder’s standalone movies. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how he will be efficiently utilized in the movie.
