NDA Eligibility 2023: The NDA is the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where selected candidates of all three services i.e. Army, Navy, Air Force get training together after completing basic training from NDA, candidates go to their respective academies for pre-commissioning training. Union Public Service Commission conducts the NDA exam twice a year in April and September. Earlier, the NDA was conducted to select male candidates for various services, now since 2021 UPSC has made female candidates eligible for the NDA examination. The candidates who qualified for the written test will be called for SSB Interview. In this article, we have discussed the eligibility criteria for the NDA examination in detail.

NDA Eligibility 2023

The NDA 2023 eligibility criteria depend on four major aspects, to ensure the final selection candidates have to fulfill the eligibility criteria given below:

  1. NDA Age Limit, Marital Status & Gender
  2. NDA Citizenship/Nationality
  3. NDA Educational Qualification
  4. NDA Physical/ Medical Qualification

NDA Age Limit 2023

The candidates must have attained 16 years of age and be less than 19 years of age i.e., the candidate must have been born not earlier than 02nd July 2004 and not later than 1st July 2007. Here we have given the detailed NDA age limit criteria prescribed by UPSC. check out the important points and table given below:

  1. The date of birth mentioned during the application form filling must be the same as the date of birth given in the matriculation or secondary school leaving certificate.
  2. Only unmarried candidates can apply for the NDA examination.
  3. The candidates born not earlier than 02nd July 2004 and not later than 1st July 2007 are eligible.

NDA Educational Qualification 2023

The interested candidates must meet the educational qualification prescribed by UPSC to get eligible for NDA. Check the educational criteria given below in the table before applying for NDA:

Army Wing Pass certificate of class 12th via recognized board or a University.
Air Force and Naval Wings Pass certificate of class 12th via recognized board or a University with Physics and Mathematics.
10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy Pass certificate of class 12th via recognized board or a University with Physics and Mathematics.

NDA Nationality 2023

The candidates need to meet the eligibility criteria to get eligible for the NDA. If candidates failed to meet the following nationality criteria his/her candidature can be terminated at any stage of the selection process. The candidates must possess any one of the nationality criteria given below:

  1. A citizen of India
  2. A subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  3. An Indian origin who is migrated from the countries(Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam) with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  4. Refugees of Tibet who moved to India, before 1st January 1962 and settled here permanently.

NDA Physical Fitness and Medical Standards

The candidates who want to appear for NDA must check the physical and medical standards required for NDA. The fitness and medical criteria are as follows:

NDA Physical Fitness

The candidates should be medically fit and must not be suffering from any of the minor diseases listed below:

  1. Piles
  2. Tonsillitis
  3. Gynaecomastia
  4. Varicocele
  5. Wax (Ears)
  6. Deviated Nasal Septum
  7. Hydrocele / Phimosis
  8. Condition of Overweight / Underweight
  9. Under Sized Chest

NDA Physical Standard for Army/Air force

The minimum acceptable height is 157cms for Army and  162.5 cms for the Air Force. There are certain exceptions are allowed to candidates based on the region they belong to. These exceptions are as follows:

  1. Candidates belonging to the hills of North India, Kumaon, Garhwal, Gorkhas will get a 5cms relaxation in maximum height required.
  2. The candidates belonging to the Lakshadweep region will get 2cms of relaxation in maximum height.

Physical Standards for Navy: Candidates who are willing to join the Navy through NDA must fulfill the physical standards given below:

  1. Leg Length: The minimum of 99 cms and maximum of 120 cms
  2. Thigh Length: Maximum of 64 cms
  3. Sitting Height: The minimum of 81.50 cms and maximum is 96 cms

NDA Visual Standards for ARMY

The candidates must meet the required visual standards set by the authority. Check the table below to know the visual standards required to be eligible for ARMY:

Distance Vision (Corrected) Better Eye 6/6; Worse Eye 6/9
Colour vision CP-III (Defective Safe).

Myopia should not be more than -2.5D

Hypermetropia should not be more than +3.5D

Visual Standards for Air Force: Candidates must meet the criteria of vision standard given below in the table to get eligible for Air Force:

  2. Corrected with glass – 6/6, 6/6
  3. Limits of Myopia – –0.75
