The Naya Rivera case
They have nicknamed it “the cursed series”, but perhaps it is only particularly unfortunate. However you see it, the teen drama musical Ryan Murphy (also author of recent Hollywood), Glee, continues to collect tragedies. The last, in order, chronology, concerns the disappearance of Naya Rivera (cheerleader Santana), who was on a boat off Lake Piru, California with her four-year-old son Josey. The boy was rescued safely on board, while no news has been reported of the 33-year-old actress since July 8 and local authorities speculate that he would die by drowning. Naya Rivera, arrested on Thanksgiving weekend in 2017, had been accused by then-husband Rylan Dorsey of domestic violence. Even previously she had been involved in “eventful” episodes related to love affairs.

Mark Salling (Puck), a colleague and ex-boyfriend for three years, hanged himself in 2018 not far from Sunland’s home in Los Angeles after being arrested for child pornography. The 26-year-old had been arrested for possessing over 50,000 images and 600 videos with naked girls and girls (some even aged three). To reveal it to the police, the girlfriend of the time thought, to whom the actor had shown the collection.
Probably, however, the episode that most shocked the fans of the series was that of an accidental overdose of Cory Monteith (Finn) in 2013, at the age of 31. While in a hotel room in Vancouver the mix of heroin and alcohol was lethal. The actor struggled with addictions from the age of 13, when he started using marijuana, then ended up in rehabilitation twice just after coming of age and then again during the filming of the series. At the time he was engaged to Lea Michele (Rachel) who heard the news on the news. Currently the 33 year old expects her first child from her husband Zandy Reich but is in the middle of another storm, due to bullying and racism during the filming of the show. These social accusations have already cost her the loss of a sponsor, HelloFresh, and have multiplied starting from Samantha Ware to include other colleagues such as Heather Morris, Dabier Snell and Yvette Nicole Brown who confirmed her attitudes as a despotic diva.
It does not end here: an assistant director, Jim Fuller, died of a heart attack in his sleep while Julia Roberts’ half-sister, Nancy Motes, who worked as a production assistant on the series in 2014, took her own life because of depression. in the meantime Melissa Benoit (Marley) has accused an ex of his own, allegedly Blake Jenner (Ryder), of domestic violence.

Five years after the final clapperboard, the show continues to be talked about: revolutionary, irreverent and inclusive, he wrote the story of TV for teenagers even if, in one way or another, the memory of his glory was downsized and clouded as a result of these events. And to think that the series has also given rise to a live tour around the world – always sold out – and to a annual event, the Gleeffonito which the Italian public flocked. The Campania festival for children in Giffoni (in the province of Salerno) has featured the protagonists for various editions, allowing fans to meet them live during the meet & great events. In some cases, boys from abroad arrived and slept in their tents next to the blue carpet to earn a front row seat on the catwalk.
