An updated Pro X isn’t the only new Surface device Microsoft announced today. The company also announced a new entry-level computer called the Surface Laptop Go, which fills a void in its portable product line. This is due to the fact that it fits between the more expensive Surface Laptop 3 and the less powerful Surface Go 2.
The Surface Laptop Go has a 12.4-inch PixelSense touchscreen display with a resolution of 1,536 x 1,024 and a Microsoft aspect ratio of 3: 2. Inside is an Intel i5-1035G1 processor with four cores and eight threads and a TDP of 15 W. The base model for $ 549.99 has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of eMMC storage. Two more models allow you to configure the Surface Laptop Go with 8 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD or 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD for $ 699.99 and $ 899.99, respectively. All three models are equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.

The Surface Laptop Go dispenses with the usual Windows Hello IR camera from Microsoft and instead opts for a fingerprint sensor that is integrated into the computer’s power switch. The good news is that there’s still a 720p webcam out there.
It also comes with a large keyboard with 1.3mm of key travel and a generous trackpad. In terms of I / O, you get access to individual USB-A and UBS-C ports, a headphone jack, and Microsoft Surface Connect for charging. According to Microsoft, the battery life is approximately 13 hours with typical use. With the included 39 W adapter, you can charge the battery to 80% in one hour.
In short, the Surface Laptop Go seems like a compelling option for those who don’t need the most powerful computer but still want a machine that is powerful and looks attractive. You can pre-order the Surface Laptop Go starting today in three colors – Ice Blue, Sandstone, and Platinum – with general availability starting October 13th.
