Those 2020 will certainly be special graduates. No end of year dances, no delivery of the diploma. But to console them, a virtual ceremony of great caliber that will go online on Youtube, as well as on various television channels, on Saturday 6 June. Guests Michelle and Barack Obama, Lady Gaga, Oprah Winphrey, Malala Yousafzai and, again, Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Kerry Washington, Chloe x Halle, Zendaya. All followed by a virtual afterparty for the graduation night with a performance by the South Korean boy band BTS.

To announce it on Twitter, Michelle Obama thought about it

I know how hard # Classof2020 worked to get to graduation, so @BarackObama and I want to give you the celebration you deserve. That’s why @ReachHigher and I are partnering with @Youtube to host a virtual degree on June 6! RSVP at https://bit.ly/RHGraduation.

Former President Obama, by the way, will also give the opening speech for Graduate Together: America Honors The High School Class Of 2020, a virtual graduate event to be held on May 16 and aired on ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC and will feature LeBron James, Jonas Brothers, Yara Shahidi, Bad Bunny, Lena Waithe, Ben Platt, Pharrell Williams and Megan Rapinoe. On the same day Obama will also participate in “Show Me Your Walk, HBCU Edition”, an event for colleges and universities historically attended by blacks, he announced on Tuesday on Twitter.

I have always loved joining these events which are the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. Although we won’t be able to meet in person this year, Michelle and I are excited to celebrate the 2020 national class and to recognize this milestone with you and your loved ones.

Oprah Winfrey, on the other hand, will give the opening speech during # Graduation2020: Facebook and Instagram Celebrate the Class of 2020, a virtual event that will take place on May 15th on Facebook and Instagram. Meanwhile, on the same day, HerCampus hosts another virtual ceremony on Imstillgraduating.com, with speeches and performances by Eva Longoria, Tamron Hall, Billie Jean King, Andrew Yang, Saweetie, Margaret Cho and more.
