To celebrate the Cary Grant unknown to most, Oliver Peoples presents a new collection of men’s glasses, sun and sight, inspired by the style of the actor in his private life.
The renewed collaboration with the Cary Grant Estate, the first of the organization with a commercial brand, gave birth to two models available in five exclusive colors. In addition, the successful models of the first Oliver Peoples Cary Grant capsule collection, presented in 2019, have been updated with new color combinations.
The new frames, Cary Grant II and Cary Grant II Sun, translate the actor’s most personal style into a refined and timeless design that combines the taste of the 1950s and 1960s Hollywood with the relaxed style that has always characterized the actor.
“I think Cary managed to convey many of the wonderful features in acting,” says wife Barbara Grant Jaynes, “In his eyes you could see his authentic light.” “But his kindness, his refinement and his humor always emerged,” adds daughter Jennifer Grant.
“The intention of Oliver Peoples was to create an evolution of the initial design while continuing to pay homage to the timeless style of one of the most iconic Hollywood stars ever, “ explains Giampiero Tagliaferri, Creative Director of Oliver Peoples. “It was born of it a combined frame that embodies the spirit of Hollywood of the fifties and sixties, the fundamental silhouette of the cinema and TV of the time, keeping a relaxed attitude, just as Cary Grant always appeared. It is the expression of a casual elegance, typical of Grant and California: a look that is as unique as it is natural. “
While referring to a specific period in the history of fashion, the collection appears current thanks to the timeless design. The combination of the acetate and the metal of the rims enhances the measured proportions of the frame. The CG monogram, inspired by the actor’s writing paper, discreetly distinguishes all models at the end of the auction.
The colors some new men’s glasses have been selected by the Grant family, confirming the peculiar turtle acetate Grant, created exclusively for the line.
To celebrate the collection and the union between past and present, Oliver Peoples presented a series of illustrations inspired by the fashion magazines of the 1940s and 1950s, portraying Cary Grant with the new men’s glasses. The images tell how the actor would have worn these frames with his casual style: a cool shirt, linen trousers and the perfect sunglasses.
The Cary Grant II models are available from the second week of June.
