The Comfort Sleep Story
The 40-year history of Comfort Sleep has humble beginnings in Melbourne in 1981. Husband and wife team Sam and Lucy Sapuppo launched their mattress company in a small shopfront in Thomastown. In the years that followed, they successfully built the brand to employ over 50 people at their now huge facility. Since the beginning, the core focus has always been on quality, with a commitment to hard work and expert craftsmanship, ensuring all their customers enjoy the best night’s sleep. This philosophy remains under the leadership of their sons, David and Michael. It’s proudly Australian-owned, run, and made, with the most passionate and skilled people on board.
The Master Tailor™ Mattress
To represent and embody this 40-year heritage, the team of designers was given carte blanche to create the best and most luxurious mattress on the market. The sole directive was that it should feature only the best materials and technology d from around the world. The result was the Master Tailor™ Solitaire, the flagship product that exudes luxury and comfort. It took over a year to design, and every element, both inside and out, serves a purpose. From the exclusive platinum-infused comfort layers to the pocket springs made by one of Germany’s oldest spring makers, this mattress exceeds the highest expectations.
While every single mattress from Comfort Sleep is made by hand in the Melbourne production facility, only expert craftspeople lend their skills to the Master Tailor™ collection. The team that works on these exclusive units all have a minimum of ten years of experience with the company. In fact, combined, they have more than 450 years of mattress-making expertise. As such, their finesse, attention to detail, and mastery are second to none. You can buy in confidence knowing that the most skilled people with the capacity for premium output have crafted your sleep haven.
In addition to the expert craftsmanship, every element in the Master Tailor™ Solitare is the best. At first glance, the externals are beautiful, with exquisite details from the stitching and finishes to even the labels. However, it’s what’s inside that really counts. It starts at the base with titanium alloy pocket springs, manufactured by German brand Herkules, one of the world’s oldest and most trusted bed spring producers, known for their precision and quality. Next is the Italian-made Platinum Next Technology, an exclusive formula infused with platinum for perfect temperature regulation. Finally, the Australian-made quilting features a silk blend that’s soft, cool, comfortable, durable, and breathable. The result is such high quality that you can even find Master Tailor™ mattresses in the villa suites at Crown Resort properties.
Adding a Master Tailor™ mattress to your bedroom set-up will leave you feeling like you’ve slept on a cloud. As every element of the design serves a purpose, and each is the best component available, you’ll enjoy multiple benefits. This includes ideal comfort and support, no bedmate disruptions, and excellent temperature control. Plus, you have a choice of firmness levels and can sleep well in any position – even at the edge of the bed! To round it all out, the mattress is also covered by a 10-year warranty.
Comfort & Support
An investment in innovation and the best components available means every level of the Master Tailor™ mattress enhances your comfort as you sleep. To start, the upper layers use a Hygroflex & Quiltec™ Blend and Italian Platinum Next Technology, plus eco-friendly Australian-made Global GreenTag certified memory and high-density foam for optimal body contouring. This ensures there’s minimized pressure on your body, no matter what position you sleep in. Then, you also have the benefit of double-decker springs. The bottom layer, featuring the Herkules pocket springs, does the heavy lifting, with seven zones to perfectly support your head, shoulders, back, hips, knees, legs, and ankles. Meanwhile, the upper layer of Dream Air micro pocket coils provides additional contouring and support, plus it improves airflow.
There’s nothing more frustrating than having slipped into a deep sleep, only to be bounced awake by your partner, child, or pet rolling over. That won’t be an issue when you sleep on a Master Tailor™ Solitaire mattress. This is thanks to Herkules pocket springs and the Dream Air micro pocket coils. Unlike coil spring mattresses, pocket springs move and depress independently of each other, therefore providing excellent motion isolation. This means you won’t feel your bedmates shift in their sleep, nor will you roll into the center of the bed. Plus, because each spring sits in its own fabric pocket, there’s no metal rubbing metal to make an annoying squeaking sound with movement.
Waking up in the dead of night a hot, sweaty mess is not an ideal situation. Apart from choosing natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, and silk for your sleepwear and bedding, the right mattress can also help avoid this situation. The high quality of the Master Tailor™ mattresses means there are many elements that improve body temperature regulation, thermal conduction, and airflow. This includes Australian-made silk-knit quilting, which is soft, breathable, thermoregulating, and feels luxurious. Then there’s the Quiltec™ and Platnium Next technology, which regulate and diffuse body heat. Finally, the Dream Air micro pocket coils facilitate better airflow through the mid-layers of the sleep system. Combined, you’ll stay cool when you want and warm when you need without breaking a sweat.
Choose from three firmness options when selecting your Master Tailor™ mattress. The Plush design is perfect if you like a super soft, swallow-you-whole kind of bed. It has a firmness rating of around three out of ten. Then, at the opposite end is the Firm model, which rates about a seven and a half out of ten. Finally, if your preferences sit a little more in the middle of the road, the medium mattress is perfect. Regardless of which model you choose, all maintain the same high-quality internal components. The difference lies with the density of the Australian-made eco-friendly foam layers.
Regardless if you sleep flat on your back like Dracula, spoon a body pillow, or snooze on your stomach, you’ll be exceptionally comfortable on a Master Tailor™ mattress. It boasts exceptional body contouring, pressure relief, and support from the mix of innovative foam layers combined with seven-zoned pocket springs. This takes the pressure off areas like your shoulders, hips, and knees, so no matter how you’re positioned, you’ll feel like you’re floating on a cloud.
Keeping it all together and maintaining the unit’s structural integrity is the EdgeBoost™ Foam Boxed Wall. It encases the outer edge of the mattress, keeping the shape and ensuring your comfort across the entire surface. That means even if you find yourself forced to the edge of the bed by a starfish sleeper or all the kids wanting to snuggle, you’ll still sleep well and don’t need to worry about falling off.

Luxury Mattress FAQs
How long does a mattress last?
Good quality mattresses should last at least ten years, and Master Tailor comes with a 10-year warranty. The lifespan of a mattress will depend on a few factors. This includes the materials used in the original build, bed base, user weight, sleeping position, and care.
What is best – a firm, medium, or soft mattress?
There is no one answer to this question, as it comes entirely down to personal preference. The variation generally comes from the density of the foam used in the upper layers. What you like will vary with your sleep style, general health, age, gender, and even your sleeping position. If in doubt, head to a retailer to try them out. You can also speak to a sales assistant about their recommendations.
How long does it take to get used to a new mattress?
Just like getting a new pillow, it can take a little while to get used to a new mattress. It can take around 30 days to adjust; however, investing in a mattress with excellent body sculpting and pressure-relieving components will ease the transition.
