Marvel’s Loki Series: What We Know About the Disney+ Show

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to get a lot bigger, with multiple MCU spinoff series planned for Disney’s streaming video service, Disney+. Among the shows will be Loki, a series focusing on the titular Asgardian trickster who’s played a prominent role in the evolution of Marvel’s movieverse.

Tom Hiddleston will reprise his MCU role for the series, according to the latest reports on the show. With the series premiering June 9, here’s everything we know about Loki so far.

Multiverse madness

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige revealed Loki will meet alternative versions of himself from separate timelines in the upcoming series. “Part of the fun of the multiverse and playing with time is seeing other versions of characters, and other versions of the titular character in particular,” Feige said. “He’s been around for thousands of years. He had all sorts of adventures. Wanting to fill in the blanks and see much more of Loki’s story [was] the initial desire [for the series].”

Could some of those alternate Lokis be in the new teaser above?

First trailer

Some of the dots are now connecting thanks to the first series trailer. After stealing the Tesseract and transporting himself away in Avengers: Endgame, Loki has run afoul of the Time Variance Authority, who now impress him into helping reset the proper timeline.

Official posters

Disney has released the first two official posters and already amended the release date for Loki. We knew the series is expected to pick up from where we last saw the titular character in Avengers: Endgame — picking up the Tesseract and transporting himself to parts unknown after the future Avengers’ botched retrieval of the Infinity Stone. The posters certainly tease that time travel or even multiverse hopping may occur in the series, thanks to the clock in the background and the collar around fugitive Loki’s neck. He’s on the run, possibly through time — and possibly through parallel universes.

The second official poster includes Miss Minutes, a mascot for the Time Variance Authority, as well as a new release date! New episodes of Loki will air on Wednesdays starting June 9 on Disney+.

Already another season

Loki still hasn’t debuted on Disney+ but Production Weekly reports that it has already been renewed for a second season. Production for season 2 should begin sometime in 2022. Season 1 is still expected sometime in 2021.

Landing page official

On July 13, showrunner Michael Waldron revealed that Loki officially had its landing page at Disney+. He also used the moment to call out that Disney had designated the series as science fiction. Doubling down on the designation, Waldron wrote, “You know what they say about ‘sci-fi’: Expect the unexpected when it comes to science fiction.”

Resuming production

We were all excited by recent news Paul Bettany had to cancel a July comiccon due to WandaVision filming. I've just learned that #Loki and #FalconAndtheWinterSoldier are also expected to continue filming in July. This is a new for me & I must keep it anon but I believe it!

According to entertainment reporter Liz Hill, Loki has been cleared to resume filming in July. Disney has yet to confirm this report, however. No word yet on how the production delays will affect the 2021 release date.

Lady Loki?

New photos from the set of Loki have surfaced, and certainly, appear to be teasing a popular premise from the comics. Sophia Di Martino is in a costume that is markedly similar to Loki’s Asgardian garb. Maybe she’s a different character entirely, or maybe she’s the trickster himself, transformed into a woman. In the comics and in Nordic mythology, Loki can change his form — as we’ve seen in the MCU when he took on the form
