Announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Marvel’s Eternal, the twenty-sixth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is approaching its theatrical release slated for November 5, 2021. We should have watched the film by now if it hadn’t been for the pandemic, which caused a lot of changes. in the output. slate for Marvel Studios, but the extra time the studio and filmmakers had for post-production only helps them create a well-finished cut of the film. This is probably the reason director Chloe Zhao is still working on the final cut as she focuses on the finalized release date.
Currently, co-editors Dylan Tichenor and Craig Wood are in the middle of a lengthy editing process under the direction of Director Zhao. Speaking to Sundance Collab, Dylan Tichenor shed light on the editing approach they are taking for the big-budget Marvel project. Tichenor said,
“I am [working] at present [with] Chloe [Zhao]. Chloe publishes her films and she has strong opinions. But she also wants to know everything I’m thinking, and frankly, we did the whole first cut without a lot of input from her in terms of takes or this or that, “Tichenor explained.” And she has it. just watched. And the things she wants to tweak, we tweak them. But overall it really drew on our experience and perspective. That’s why we’re hired, you know, for our creativity and our experience. And a good sense of humor. But I think this is the best result. “
Zhao is known to edit her directorial works herself. But Zhao is assisted by co-editors for Eternal partly because of the large scale production of the film and partly because of the ongoing awards season. Zhao is currently crammed between awards ceremonies as she awaits the results of her many pending nominations for the critically acclaimed film, Nomadland. Zhao even won Best Director and Best Dramatic Film at this year’s Golden Globes for Nomadland, making Eternal a much more rushed and anticipated project.
Eternal will be an original story starring an ensemble cast featuring Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanijani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Gemma Chan and Barry Keoghan, completing the titular team of cosmic superheroes. The film will follow these celestial beings emerging from their exile after a thousand years due to a set of catastrophic events caused by the events of Avengers: Endgame. One of the film’s most anticipated cast will be Kit Harrington, who was brought on board to play a non-eternal character, Dane Whitman aka Black Knight.
It’s too early to say anything aboutEternal as the two main plot details are under wraps and there has yet to be an official teaser or even any posters unveiled from the studio. Since the film will follow ongoing events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Black Widow, we might see pictures or two of Eternal in a sequence of mid-credits or post-credits of the first. But it is possible that Black Widow gives us a glimpse of the events of the Hawkeye TV series as it will tie into them when the series begins airing next year. Whatever happens, as fans, we just can’t wait for more installments of MCU movies to hit theaters or streaming platforms, whichever may be enough given the situation. This news was born at Sundance Collab.
