The candidate’s controversial exit came after she and the other three remaining designers – Jonny Cota, Sander Bos, and Esther Perbandt – were responsible for creating a mini collection that embodies the evolution of their brands since the start of the competition. Eventually, Esther won the challenge, Sander came in second and Jonny and Megan were ready for elimination. After long deliberations between judges Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell, Joseph Altuzarra, and Chiara Ferragni, they finally chose to send Megan home – a decision that left Naomi stifled and home fans smoke.
Nevertheless, Megan kept her head high when leaving the competition.
On Instagram after coming back home, the designer wrote: “I am completely overwhelmed and impressed. Congratulations to the last 3 and a big thank you to @makingthecuttv and @amazonprimevideo and to the judges for this incredible opportunity. I also wanted to send a thank you special to @naomi for this unforgettable shipment. I really felt seen and appreciated for the first time in a long time, which can be rare in this industry. She is and will always be a legend, undeniably, and I am eternally grateful to her and from this moment. Just know that I won’t stop anytime soon, this is just the beginning. “
Asked why the judges sent Megan back to Jonny’s home, Heidi says Good Housekeeping that it was certainly not an easy call to make.
“We thought the others were stronger,” she explains to us during a telephone interview with Tim gunn. “You know, it’s not that she was bad or that she did something wrong, and we really liked her. That’s when you also have to look [at] who is still competing with you. Right? And then we’re like, well, who should come in instead? We think there are stronger candidates than her, you know, so far, and that’s why we sent her home that day. “
Tim admits that the decision to remove Megan from the show weighed heavily on his heart.
“It’s a bit like musical chairs. You just want to play music, remove the chair and see which three designers are still seated,” he said. “It’s extremely difficult at this point … there are no good decisions to be made.”
Although it was difficult, Heidi and Tim are sure that Jonny (who became the winner of Make the cut) deserved to prevail.
“He has a strong story to tell [and] he is a great designer. I think he has a very clear brand identity and I wish him every success, “concludes Heidi.
Agree with Heidi, Tim adds: “I feel like a proud dad.”
