Mike Markkula was Apple’s third employee and second CEO. It never became a household name like Steve Jobs, but it was instrumental in the early days of Apple. He made a $ 250,000 angel investment in the start-up, giving him a third of the business alongside Jobs and Steve Wozniak. He also helped develop the company’s business strategy. He was one of the oldest board members in the history of Apple before resigning in 1997. Since leaving Apple, Markkula has invested in a few startups and donated money at the University of Santa Clara for the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics.
He put his 14,000 acres on the market for $ 37.5 million. The property, Rana Creek Ranch, includes a 5413 square foot one bedroom main house with a two bedroom guest wing, a separate two bedroom guest house and five other houses, as well as a private lake, a merry-go-round, two barns, a 2,900-foot landing strip and a helipad. The ranch was listed in 2013 for $ 59.95 million, again in 2016 for $ 45 million and now for $ 37.5 million. Rana Creek Ranch is the largest land property in the Carmel Valley. The ranch is located approximately 85 miles south of Silicon Valley. It is over 20 square miles of hills.
The interior of the main house is open and airy with light colored wood and bay windows. The kitchen has a large island and a dining area. The bedroom is surrounded by windows overlooking lush trees and has a larger dressing room than most apartments. The house has a full bar and a separate billiard room. The main house is connected by a covered walkway to a two bedroom guest wing. The guest wing has a living room with a fireplace, as well as a kitchen. In addition to the guest wing, the property includes a separate two-bedroom guesthouse, offices and staff accommodation. The property also has a private lake, a riding school and two barns. The pool overlooks the hills of the ranch.
