Kad Merad and Malik Bentalha Shine in the Heartwarming Buddy Comedy

You Can’t Miss Tonight: Kad Merad and Malik Bentalha in Le Doudou – Buddy Comedy as Funny as BreakfastAfter an exhausting day, an ambitious and motivated office worker appears to make his way to the bus stop. But hang on – which bus is the 69? Le Doudou (2021) directed by Olivier Abbou.

AlloCiné proposes a film to (re)watch on TV every day. Tonight: an endearing buddy movie starring Kad Merad and Malik Bentalha.

Michel has lost his daughter’s teddy bear at Roissy. He has posted a public notice with a reward for its recovery. Sofiane, the airport’s night guard, clicks on this tender information and decides to have a go. He lies and says that he has found it. Since the teddy bear proves a no-show at the agreed time, Michel and Sofiane set off to find it anyway. A mission that proves more difficult than expected.

What’s the pitch? Easily digestible comedy: Le Doudou (one of those films whose pitch is a single word), released in theaters in 2018, Special Jury Prize at Alpe d’Huez Festival. Buddy movie as funny as it is warm and endearing, and, at times, reminiscent of the populist spirit of Francis Veber (Le Chevre, Le Dîner de cons). And the dream pair between Kad Merad and Malik Bentalha.

This irresistible feeling-good-crazy Doudouan family comedy,’ as Mechelen and Hervé, the film’s screenwriters and creators, call Les Tuche, is drawn straight from their own fatherhood. ‘Two dads who know precisely what it means to go look for a comfort blanket, and what it’s like for a child when he’s actually lost his,’ Mechelen explains. It is this very funny search for a doudou that the filmmakers want you to connect with another, deeper question: family.

“Have you seen Kad’s eyes?”

The Doudou is inspired by the buddy movie, a film genre that is as Hollywood as it gets: two unlike characters, often uncomfortably thrown together, must join forces. ‘We began by thinking about losing a comforter,’ says Julien Herve, ‘and wondered what adventures we could give our characters: who will these two meet?’

Philippe Mechelen et Julien Herve sought an actor who would be ‘a bit of a good guy and a bit of a strong guy, and with a look that’s full of sympathy’. They thought of Kad Merad: ‘We thought: have you seen his eyes? Do you know what’s in them? Humanity, tenderness… in short, we were fans! Kad signed on really quickly and that reassured us and gave us time to start thinking of the other half of the duo.’THE DIRECTORS

The mad race against time to find this damn Doudou has begun!! Find it too!

Tonight on NRJ 12 at 9:10 p.m.
