Gal Gadot, the actress who plays Justice League‘s Wonder Woman, is the latest to respond to allegations of abuse against writer-director Joss Whedon. Whedon was brought in as Zack Snyder’s replacement to direct Justice League in 2017, after Snyder resigned due to the tragic loss of his daughter. Several actors have spoken out about Whedon’s alleged behavior on set while filming the film, with a recent bombshell report alleging Whedon threatened Gadot’s career. Gadot made his first superhero appearance in Zack Snyder Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016.
The actress would later reprise her role in the critically acclaimed film Wonder woman. Gadot has been adopted as the iconic character by fans, critics and even Justice League co-star Ben Affleck, praising his work in the 2017 film. Like many other Gadot on-screen peers, like Cyborg actor Ray Fisher, the issues for Gadot really started when covers of Whedon. The actress wouldn’t have liked the direction Whedon wanted to take with her character. He also allegedly gave Gadot lines of dialogue that he knew she would be uncomfortable with, belittled. Wonder woman director and close friend of Gadot, Patty Jenkins, and threatened the actress’ career if she did not comply with his harsh demands.

Cyborg actor Ray Fisher has made consistent allegations of “racist and inappropriate conduct” against Whedon and have been documented in detail by THR. Their continued coverage has been updated with a response from Gadot. Although short and sweet, the statement, which echoes Gadot’s previous comments, almost confirms the growing reputation for Whedon’s disruptive behavior on set: “I had problems with [Whedon] and Warner Bros. treated him in a timely manner. “
Gadot’s response is diplomatic, but damning. Fisher was the first to talk about Whedon’s Justice League behaviour. His courage to come forward has since inspired other actors, from AquamanJason Momoa at Buffy the vampire slayer‘s Charisma Carpenter, to share their negative experiences with the filmmaker. Still several years ago, when Whedon was recruited to write a Wonder woman script, fans ultimately criticized its sexist tone when it was leaked online.
For many fans, the recently released four-hour Snyder Cut Justice League corrected the many perceived wrongs that occurred in the 2017 Cut of Theatrical Cut. One glaring difference is how Snyder respectfully portrays Wonder Woman. And rightly so. Overall, Snyder Cut’s tale did a lot more justice to the hero set, resulting in a film that represents the best that the DCEU can be. Ultimately, no one should be abused in the workplace, even if it is on the set of a big budget movie like Justice League.
