During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show in 2019 John Krasinski revealed his status as the devil wears Prada superfan – and joked that he was only with his wife (whose leading role was in the 2006 film) because he couldn’t get Anne Hathaway.
Krasinski felt that he had seen The devil wears Prada 72 times and he blames the heavy spinning of the film on cable TV for that number.
“It was one of those things that, at the time, we, the elderly, channeled surfing. Nobody does that anymore,” said Krasinski. “It’s just one of those movies that every time you go through the channels, you stop and watch yourself.”
Naturally, because he is a big fan of the film, John mentioned it when he met his future wife.
“When we first met, I was like, ‘I just want to get rid of it – I’m a big fan of yours,'” Krasinski said of his meeting with Blunt. “I was a full stalker status. I was like ‘Hey, do you want to go out with me?'”
Obviously, the fanboy tactic worked: Krasinski and Blunt have been married since 2010 and have two beautiful daughters together. Landing Blunt did not slow down his obsession with the film, however. Blunt called her husband during the interview saying that he was still watching the movie and even had a favorite scene (spoiler: it’s not his).
“There is a kind of montage sequence where Anne Hathaway has many fabulous outfits that they go through. And John, one day I came home, and he was watching him and he was watching the montage. And he said, ‘ It’s my favorite outfit, ‘”she said.
Without missing a beat, Krasinski joked that he really wanted to go out with Hathaway (with whom he and Blunt are still good friends). “I couldn’t have Annie and so I thought, ‘Ohhhh …'”
Not to be outdone, Hathaway replied to the story on Instagram, joking perfectly that she is only with her husband because she couldn’t get Blunt.
