Jim Harbaugh Has Earned An Insane Amount Of Money From Michigan

When Jim Harborg became the head coach of the University of Michigan in 2015, he also had a set of lofty expectations. While leading the final coaching in college football, he led the Stanford Cardinals to an Orange Bowl victory. He then turned and returned the San Francisco 49ers to national relevance, including a Super Bowl appearance in the 2012 season.

Naturally, Michigan expected similar success. But Wolverine has been disappointed since Harbor took office. His first two seasons have been arguably the best – the team finished both 10–3 years old, finishing 12th and 10th with a fairly good finish, respectively, in the AP poll.

However, it has now been six seasons and the Wolverines have failed to reach the College Football Playoff. They have reached the Big Ten title game only once in that period, and are disappointed 2-4 this year.

To be fair, the 2020 college football season has been a mess in general. Several games, including three for Michigan, have been canceled. And with COVID-19 providing uncertainty across the country, a dismal weather is understandable.

Wolverine fans are less happy about: a 0–5 record against rival Ohio State. Oh, and the fact that Michigan has so far paid $ 45.4 million to Harbag with only a 1-4 bowl record.

An already large contract – Harbag has earned $ 33.4 million so far in salary – is ballooned thanks to an unusual clause. The University of Michigan is essentially paying Harbaugh $ 2 million per year for two years to pay his life insurance. However, Harboff can withdraw from those premiums without penalty.

The university should get the money back when Harbaug dies, even when he is not coaching the team. But with A life insurance policy Estimated to be between $ 35 to $ 75 million, Herb may borrow quite a bit as the cash value of its policy.

This is not a normal way for a coach to earn money, although it is an interesting structure for his contract. Of course, the Wolverines were hoping they would compete for a conference championship at least every year.

This has not happened yet. But many disappointed teams start saying around this point of the season: there is always next year.
