Apple annual developer conference WWDC scheduled for June 22 and because of the coronavirus pandemic, the event will be entirely virtual this year. While we don’t expect big iPhone launches, Apple’s recent release of iPhone SE for 2020 shows that the company continues to launch new products. This may indicate that the next iPhone 12, 12 Pro and 12 Max – Apple has not confirmed the names of the phones, but we will continue with these – are still scheduled for the fall.

When exactly during the fall is the question. Although we generally see new flagship iPhones in September, recent reports indicate that Apple may delay the sequels of the iPhone 11. This is understandable with the iPhone 12 sailing in unfamiliar waters. The COVID-19 outbreak forced Apple to close its US retail stores indefinitely and all its stores outside of China. Suppliers in China have also closed or are operating on limited capacity, which may impact not only on stocks in September But sales too.

Top rumors about the iPhone 12

6:10

Despite such disruption, rumors continue to swirl around the iPhone 12 phones, which we imagine will continue until their official launch. In addition to perhaps introducing 3D depth detection in its rear cameras and new screen sizes, speculation has arisen that Apple would belatedly include a feature in the iPhone that would make it competitive compared to its competitors: 5G. This makes sense given that its main rival, Samsung, launched several 5G phones this year, including the high end Galaxy S20 phones and the more budget Galaxy A series of handsets.

Until this happens, check back often as we will continue to update it with the most likely and convincing rumors.

IPhone 12 release date could be October

Despite Apple’s largest manufacturer, Foxconn, assuring investors that he should still do his fall timeline, The Wall Street Journal reported that the IPhone 12 may experience delays. This is due to the coronavirus pandemic and its unprecedented effect on manufacturing and consumer demand. The report estimates that Apple could wait until October to announce the phone, about a month after the usual iPhone launch.

The price of the iPhone 12 may be cheaper than that of the iPhone 11

When the iPhone 11 debuted last year, We were pleasantly surprised that its base model costs $ 699, which is $ 50 less than that of 2018 iPhone XR. This trend could continue, a technology analyst indicating that Apple to assess iPhone 12 at $ 649, the iPhone 12 Pro at $ 999 and the iPhone 12 Pro Max at $ 1099.

IPhone 12 design: similar (or not) to iPhone 11

Every two years, Apple generally makes notable cosmetic changes to its iPhone to refresh its look, to the delight of anticipating buyers. But a report from Japanese publication Mac Otakara, citing an anonymous Chinese supplier, reported that the iPhone 12 will look like the iPhone 11. The only possible difference, unfortunately, is that the edges of the iPhone 12 will be slightly tilted.

On the other hand, Apple is also assumed completely rearrange iPhone design with flat edges (similar to new iPads). This could trigger what Wedbush analyst Dan Ives called “the perfect demand storm”, which would lead to increased sales and lead to a “super cycle” for Apple.

IPhone 12 Pro colors include dark blue

Last year, Apple introduced a midnight green color on the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. Whether do you like the shade or not, the color variant actually well sold compared to expectations. This year, Apple could launch another new color, navy blue, on iPhone 12 Pro according to developer XDA. It would be fashionable since blue is both Pantone’s choice of colors for the New Year (“classic blue”) and Shutterstock has included “ghost blue” in its color forecasts for 2020.

IPhone 12 possible screen sizes and specifications

One of the most persistent rumors about upcoming iPhones is that Apple could introduce new screen sizes. One of the iPhone 12s could have a 5.4-inch screen (among current iPhones, the new iPhone SE has the smallest screen, which measures 4.7 inches). And the iPhone 2020 Pro Max could go up to 6.7 inches (for reference, the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a 6.5 inch screen).

There is also speculation that the display of the iPhone 12 will have a refresh rate of 120 Hz and that maybe the IPhone 12 Pro may have a ProMotion screen, which is currently on the iPad Pro. Most phones refresh at 60 frames per second, or 60 Hz, but other phones, like the Galaxy S20 and the OnePlus 8 Pro refresh at 120Hz. With a higher refresh rate, a phone feels faster and smoother when scrolling through things like web pages and apps.

With the possibility of new screen sizes, rumors that Apple is expanding its iPhone line have been around the world. In December 2019, CNET’s Lexy Savvides wrote:

According to JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee, Apple will launch four new iPhone 12 models in the fall of 2020: a 5.4-inch model, two 6.1-inch phones and a 6.7-inch phone. All will have OLED screens.

These size forecasts were also confirmed this week by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who believes that the current 5.8-inch size of the iPhone 11 Pro may disappear. So the 5.4 inch models and one of the 6.1 inch models will be the low end devices, probably called iPhone 12. Then the most expensive phones will be the other 6.1 inch and 6 inch iPhone, 7 inch iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, respectively.

Will there be five new iPhones in 2020?

IPhone 12 5G connectivity?

Several rumors predict that Apple will include 5G connectivity this year. Specifically, Apple analyst Ming-chi Kuo expects the company to release three 5G phones, and Fast Company has reported that Apple can use its own proprietary 5G antennas.

There are several reasons why the company did not jump on the trend in 2019. First, Apple is generally not the first on mobile trends, preferring instead to perfect an emerging technology before committing to it. For example, it was behind its competitors by manufacturing phones with 3G and 4G LTE connectivity when these networks were just launched.

Second, Apple has stopped working with the main 5G modem provider, Qualcomm, due to a dispute over Qualcomm’s licensing fees. The two companies settled their litigation in April 2019, then agreed to a multi-year 5G chip agreement. This led to Apple’s former 5G modem partner, Intel, permanently quitting the 5G phone modem business, and Apple then acquired Intel’s smartphone modem business for $ 1 billion. Apple is still working with Qualcomm, but it started too late to launch a 5G phone last year when some of its rivals released their 5G models, like the Galaxy S10 5G, LG V50 5G and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.

IPhone 12 camera can have 3D depth detection

Since the iPhone X, the new iPhones are equipped with front cameras with 3D depth detection. Known as Face ID, this feature scans your face to unlock your phone and authorize digital payments. It has been said that Apple could take it a step further and present the same system to rear cameras. In August 2019, Vanessa Orellana of CNET wrote:

Longtime Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo (via MacRumors and 9to5Mac) said he expects two of the iPhone 2020 models to have a new time-of-flight camera lens back of the phone. The configuration would be similar to that of the current True Depth camera system used for Face ID on the front of the phone, except that it would use a slightly different type of technology that could allow it to map objects in 3D from further away. This would dramatically improve its augmented reality apps and take certain camera features like Portrait mode to the next level.

It is not known how many new iPhones would be equipped with this feature, if any.

IPhone 12 may not ship with EarPods

In one of the most unwanted rumors, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple Cannot Include Wired EarPod Headphones in iPhone 12 Box. It would be a way to entice users to buy the company’s wireless AirPods instead. Apple has included EarPod headphones since the iPhone 5 was released in 2012, so that would be a noticeable change. The AirPod and AirPod Pro headphones are currently priced at $ 159 (£ 159, AU $ 249) and $ 249 (£ 249, AU $ 399), respectively.
