International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the globe
Yoga Day or International Yoga Day is an annual global event. On 21st June every year, International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the globe. In the year 2014, the United Nations General Assembly meeting held on 11th December. In that meeting the members have decided to set a special day to promote Yoga in all over the world.
India’s contribution to International Yoga Day:
The country India has played a pivotal role in Yoga Day celebration. It was the Prime Minister of India, Shree Narendra Modi who first proposed to have a separate day for Yoga. He himself put the proposal on the United Nations General Assembly meeting in 2014. According to him, Yoga is one such physical activity that must be promoted worldwide. It is healthier and also must get similar attention like gym and other physical exercise.
Since 2015, the international yoga day is being celebrated across the world on 21st June. In India, people along with Shree Narendra Modi join the crowd and perform few of the Asanas to give importance to the day.
International Yoga Day 2017
- This year, in 2017, the Yoga Day is celebrated too like previous two years. This year PM Modi joined the crowd in Lucknow and performed a handful of Yoga Asanas. It was light rain since the morning. Still more than 10, 000 people joined him to promote the day globally.
- Along with Shree Narendra Modi, celebrities like Shilpa Shetty, Lara Dutta, Bipasha Basu and such are seen promoting the same on the day. They put up their Yoga work out pictures and videos on social networking sites to make people aware of the day.
- Also the popular name in politics at this moment, Shree Ram Nath Kovind, honorable nominee for the next presidential election had performed yoga asanas as well this morning in New Delhi.
- In some of the schools and institutions, students and teachers perform yoga to celebrate the day and to encourage the fitness among the youths in the nation.
Why is Yoga Day important?
Yoga is a physical exercise that is performed for several reasons. One of the main reasons for performing Yoga is to maintain body shape. Unlike other ways of losing weight, like gym, yoga helps you to maintain good biological system as well. There are several Asanas that can be performed to have good digestive system, mental calmness, physical fitness and also help you to lose extra body fat.
It is necessary for the people to take up Yoga asanas besides gym or treadmill. Looking at the importance of such physical exercise PM Modi has proposed to give it a separate day to celebrate. UN has accepted the fact that Yoga must be promoted as it has many advantages.
International Yoga Day is now one of the main events that take place in several countries along with India. In recent times, Netherlands, United States, Trinidad and Tobago and other countries have organized Yoga Day celebration in many places.
