1. Get a hobby to get closer to your dreams
If you have never become a professional dancer or a world-renowned writer, it does not mean that you should stop dancing or writing! These activities make you come alive, even if you “only” do them as a favorite past.
Engaging in a hobby is one of the most important success principles you can follow to get closer to your dreams.
When you try to do something creative for the first time or in a long time, you start seeing opportunities in work and life that you were previously unaware of. According to a recent New Zealand study, you also feel happier and more energetic.
Some of my most burnt executive clients reinvigorated their careers by searching for a creative outlet that re-fueled them after the workday ended. Research from San Francisco State University suggests that a hobby reduces stress and helps you succeed at work.
Give yourself permission to try new things and revisit the old passion given long ago. Setting just one hour a week for personal exploration can change your life and help you focus on goal setting.
2. Focus on your strengths
Do you know that when you develop your natural strengths instead of working on your weaknesses, you are more likely to succeed. The problem is that you might not know where your true talent lies.
Once you understand what you need to do, you can use these skills to get more work in less time. If you promote your unique abilities through practice and study, you can speed up your career and become a leader in a field that matters to you. It is worth investing in yourself this way.
3. Jumping off a cliff is not necessary
Here’s the deal: Most people are too afraid to change. When participants first come to my workshop, they tell me they have mouths to feed, bills to pay, and fear that if they follow their dreams, someone will get hurt.
The old saying “leap and net will appear” does not comfort them. Because they hesitate to dive into the unknown, they believe their only option is to stay where they are in life. can you relate?
To start a new life, you no longer have to sacrifice that life. I was a psychology professor and singer day and night for years before transitioning to a full-time music career.
To use this principle for success, take a little time each week to get an experience for what you do through hobbies, volunteer work, etc. This is what you really want? If this is what you really want to do, then increase the time you are doing it and transition when the time seems right.
4. Give some love to your inner criticism
The main culprit that makes you step outside your comfort zone and achieve the life of your dreams is the KCRP or K-CRAP, which rings in your head 24/7. The moment you try to do something interesting with your life, it slaps you with such chart-topping killer hooks as “Who do you think you are?” And “You’ll never be good!”.
Have you ever noticed that KCRP’s My-Spirited DJs sound like your parents, teachers, bosses, and other authority figures, creatively shutting you down? These people no longer need to prick you (still don’t need to do that often) because your inner critic does it for them. Which keeps you in a rut.
To break free, try to think of this DJ as a fierce old grandfather who gives you crap to keep you safe. Remember, this grumpy grandfather is out of touch with time. For his good intentions, pat him on the back, and turn your attention back to what makes you alive.
This is one of the principles of success that will give you the courage to venture into the unknown where you can dance to the beat of your own dholak.
5. Embrace Your Inner Self
Many of us do not go after our dreams because we are afraid that people will know how weird or weird we are. However, our small eccentricities often become our greatest strengths.
Odds are that you’ve lost track of your true passion and talent before you were old enough to know that you were going off-track. You gradually became “adulterated”:
- Adopt family roles that don’t really match you.
- What did the teachers teach you in school, rather than risk getting a poor grade to be original
- Hide parts of yourself that do not seem acceptable to some social groups.
The value for fitting is that you can pursue a life that does not fit you well. Your true calling becomes apparent when you embrace what makes you different from others and allows yourself to stand out from the crowd, even if it sounds awkward. Often, many of the qualities you see as your faults are your greatest gifts.
Here’s how to listen to your inner voice for Greater Fulfillment.
6. See the big picture to find your true calling
I cannot emphasize the importance of this success principle. Your true calling is right in front of you, but you can miss it because you are looking for it in the wrong place.
To “see” it clearly, try to broaden your point.
Case in point: Maria felt she needed to retire early from being a police detective, so she could travel abroad. I encouraged Maria to think of ways she could serve as a law enforcer (the career she loved) and travel abroad at the same time.
A few months later, Maria trained the local police force with the United Nations in Bosnia and trained them to understand and embrace human rights procedures.
Like Maria, you are an everyday rock star capable of accomplishing greater things than you imagined. Are you looking right in front of you? Do you have any clue as to what this could be?
Look beyond your day-to-day activities, your current job, and even the city you live in. Look at your life from an eagle’s perspective and be open to new possibilities.
7. Try Little Wish-List Magic
Pretend I am your angel godmother, and I allow you to be my most illustrious self right now. What kind of life will be in your ears? It does not matter whether it seems unattainable or downright insane. Write it on a wish list.
What would you like your career, your relationships, your health, your finances and your spiritual life? Put down enough details so that your wishes fit you. Then, look at this list before you start your day before bed and before going to sleep every night.
8. Take a break to get clues about your ideal future
Do you know that working directly through a deadline reduces returns? Research shows that taking a 15-minute break every 75 to 90 minutes can help you recharge, refresh your focus, and do more work in less time.
Also, a Stanford study shows that walking increases your creative output by 60 percent. Walking, running, riding your bike, swimming, and doing widely repetitive activities allows you to solve problems from anywhere on your mind.
What does this success principle have to do with creating the life of your dreams?
These mini-breaks allow you to get important clues on what to do next to achieve your ideal future. Also, you will not waste precious time and energy lost in other people’s agendas.
9. Take action on your inspired thoughts
Once an inspired thought pops into your mind, take action.
It is one of the most powerful principles of success to turn your dreams into reality; the sooner the better. Whatever it is – from calling an old friend to taking a new route home – be sure to do it!
Pay attention to your oddball hunch. You need to go after what you want, not just dream about it. As Comedian Jim Carrey warns,
“You can’t just imagine and eat sandwiches.”

10. Count Your Rockstar Moments
Still not sure what you have to achieve your dream? This ultimate success principle is guaranteed to help.
List all the things you have ever completed. As you read back through it, place a star next to each item, and let it sink inside.
You will be pleasantly surprised by how good you feel about yourself later. You will also see how effective you are in getting what you want. You have been successful before, and you can be successful again.
Eleanor Roosevelt said,
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
Adhering to these principles for success will help you gain the time and energy to achieve your goals and live with a clear intention.
Stand still, calm down, and listen. Your life is constantly telling you what you need to do to realize your own rock star potential in life and business. It may be just a whisper now, but the more you pay attention to it, the louder it gets, and the easier it is to follow.
