How to Earn Nook Points (& What They’re For)

Nook Points are a new currency coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons this month. Players can earn them each day through the NookLink app.

Sometime before the end of March, Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans should have the opportunity to start earning Nook Points, a new currency that was announced in the game’s free anniversary update 1.9.0. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players primarily make purchases using bells or Nook Miles. These currencies can be earned from completing a variety of in-game activities, from fishing and catching bugs to completing various tasks and stamp cards. Nook Points promise to be somewhat more exclusive, requiring players to have a Nintendo Switch Online membership and access NookLink via the mobile app.

Players can sign in each day to earn a number of Nook Points, which can then be traded for exclusive Nook Inc. prizes. This feature has not yet been released but was promised for “Late March,” so players will want to keep an eye out so they can begin earning their Nook Points right away. Here’s how to get Nook Points in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and what players can purchase with them.

Once the update releases in late March, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players will need to use the NookLink app every day. This app is accessed via the Nintendo Switch Online app and requires players to have a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online.

Each day, players can open NookLink on their Apple or Android mobile device and navigate to the Nook Points app. Clicking the app icon will take the player to the Nook Points interface. They will need to click Get My Points to claim their daily Point allotment. While it is possible that, like Nook Miles, players will be able to earn bonus Points for logging in several days in a row, previews for the service only appear to show a player earning 10 Nook Points at a time. Fans will have to wait until launch to learn more about how many points they earn each day they log in.

In the preview images for the new Nook Points system, players have noticed a character from previous games in the Animal Crossing series, Katrina, giving words of wisdom and advice she says can be “taken or ignored, but never refunded.” Katrina does not yet feature in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but it is possible this may be a hint that fans can expect her to join the game in future updates.

Fans don’t know much yet about the prizes they can earn by collecting Nook Points, but it seems most of them come from Nook Inc. and can be transferred to a player’s island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. These currently appear to be purely cosmetic items that might be useful to design an island’s public spaces.

To redeem Nook Points for a reward, players will need to open the Nintendo Switch Online app, tap the Animal Crossing: New Horizons icon, and tap the Nook Points icon. There, below their total number of Nook Points, they will see a Redeem for Items button. They can scroll through the list and select an item to purchase.

So far, the only item Nintendo has previewed as a Nook Points prize is the Nook Inc. Poster. Dataminers also discovered the following items that are likely to be obtainable through the Nook Point system:

  • Aloha-Edition Carrying Case
  • Isabelle’s Photo
  • Nook Inc. Doorplate
  • Timmy and Tommy’s Photo
  • Tom Nook’s Photo

Currently, fans only know the Nook Inc. poster will cost 10 Nook Points. There have been no other prices listed for the discovered items. While no other official information has yet been released, there is only one week left in March, so the update should be coming any day now. It is highly likely that more rewards will be added over time as the feature grows.
