In a new preview for King in Black: Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengeance is up against both Mephisto and the King in Black.

Warning! Spoilers for King in Black: Ghost-Rider #1 below!

The Ghost Rider has joined the fight against the King in Black, and the new ruler of Hell will not only have to put up with the God of Symbiotes attack, but he’s got Mephisto breathing down his back. In new previews for King in Black: Ghost Rider #1, Johnny Blaze is forced to deal with a demon outbreak – but is surprised to learn that there’s already been quite the deadly situation going on in the mortal plane.

Johnny Blaze has become the King of Hell, taking the throne from Mephisto. However, ruling the underworld has proven a difficult task as a number of demons have rebelled, escaped, and arrived on Earth. As he tries to capture those who have gotten away, Blaze will discover that the Marvel Universe is in complete disarray, following Knull’s attempt to cover everything in darkness. Now, as Hell breaks loose, Blaze and Mephisto (who’s being dragged by Ghost Rider’s Hellfire chain) will have to stop hunting demons and deal with the King in Black.

In previews for King in Black: Ghost Rider #1 by Ed Brisson, Juan Frigeri, Jason Keith, VC’s Joe Caramagna, Ghost Rider drags Mephisto on the ground as he drives around looking for the demon sorceress Lilith and those who rebelled and broke out of Hell. Blaze runs into a symbiote dragon and is perplexed by the monster. Mephisto eggs Ghost Rider on by telling him that the eight million people caught in the crosshairs aren’t his responsibility, as it’s “beneath your station.”

Blaze doesn’t appreciate Mephisto’s taunting but decides he can’t possibly turn his back on those who are helpless against Knull’s army. He takes his Hellfire chain and wraps it around a symbiote dragon’s neck while saying that the escaped demons “will have to wait.” Ghost Rider might be the ruler of Hell at the moment, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to completely turn his back on his former home.

Blaze is up for some serious challenges, as dealing with both keeping Mephisto leashed and facing the King in Black’s army is a sizable task – that’s not even mentioning possible demons that escaped Hell that he might run into. Taking on two of the darkest forces in the Marvel Universe at the same time, even if he’s got Mephisto mostly under control, at the same time, is a tall order. However, as the ruler of Hell and a former hero of Earth, Ghost Rider knows that he has no choice but to face all of the chaos head-on. King in Black: Ghost Rider #1 is in stores next week.
