Fortnite Season 6 bears a striking resemblance to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, sharing many iconic elements of the open-world game.
Fortnite Season 6 has, once again, altered the battle royale’s map, added new features, and introduced several secret quests. The update is “Primal“-themed, includes several scrapped-together new weapons, like a new type of bow and arrow, and even gives players the ability to tame wild animals, like wolves and boars. These new additions might seem unique, but many of Fortnite Season 6’s new assets are surprisingly similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s.
The battle royale’s latest patch didn’t turn it into an open-world adventure, but it joins many recent games in resembling Breath of the Wild. Immortals Fenyx Rising, Genshin Impact, and The Pathless are only a handful of the titles that were clearly inspired by the seminal Nintendo Switch launch. Now, it appears Epic Games has also taken a page out of Breath of the Wild‘s playbook.

Twitter user DenniConcepts noticed many new animals, items, and structures added to Fortnite in Season 6 look straight out of Hyrule. Both games are still worlds apart in terms of gameplay, but there are undeniable similarities in certain details. It’s unclear if it was Epic Games’ intent to mirror Nintendo’s world-building aesthetic, but the survivalist gameplay of Breath of the Wild perfectly fits Fortnite Season 6’s “Primal” theme.
How Fortnite Season 6 Is Similar To BOTW
DenniConcepts pointed out eight different aspects of Fortnite Season 6 that look teleported in from Breath of the Wild. The most obvious one is The Spire, now found at the center of the battle royale’s map, which takes after the Sheikah Towers scattered around Hyrule. Both constructs serve completely different purposes in-game, but they create the same sense of wonder in players and compel them to explore what secrets they might hide.
Cosmetics like Fortnite‘s Primal Bow and Tarana skin, as well as the chests sprinkled around the Apollo map, also seem modeled after Breath of the Wild. Epic Games hasn’t offered any insight into the development of Season 6, but resembling Breath of the Wild could get more gamers interested in Fortnite. Nintendo’s release compelled players to look beyond the obvious and turn over every stone in Hyrule. Epic Games could be doing the same with the addition of secret quests and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild-esque items and buildings.
