Fitting in – How to Stay in Shape on a Busy Schedule

Getting plenty of exercises and eating a healthy diet should be two of your main priorities in life. Not only will you live longer, but staying active on a daily basis. And having plenty of nutritious food is bound to make you feel stronger and fitter too.

Unfortunately, several of us don’t have the time to go to the gym or prepare wholesome meals regularly. With numerous work and social commitments to consider, there aren’t enough hours in the day.

However, from exercise routines that can be done at work to substituting the odd meal for nourishing protein shakes, there are various ways to keep fit on a busy schedule.

Staying fit at home

With just a bit of motivation and discipline, staying fit at home is relatively easy. The best time to exercise is before breakfast, as your body will continue to burn fat and build muscle throughout the day. Favorite home workout DVDs such as Focus T25 and Insanity tend to focus on high-intensity interval training, which is incredibly demanding but delivers pleasing results. Some smartphone and tablet apps provide shorter 15-minute workouts, but these are probably less effective.

Trimming down at work

If you prefer to relax and unwind at home, then you can always stay fit at work instead. For your daily commute, think about walking or cycling instead of taking the car. If the gym is nearby, you may even have time to make a quick cardio or strength class at lunch. Search online for some stretches you can do at your desk, though, if this isn’t possible. You may be surprised at how workouts involving office chairs, conference tables, and water bottles can help build up your muscles.

Planning and organization are two of the most important things to remember when trying to eat healthy without much time on your hands. Come up with a meal plan for every day of the week featuring recipes that are simple, quick and tasty. Prepare these dishes as far in advance as possible so they can be cooked and eaten quickly.

Drinking right

Several people forget how important hydration is, so make sure you drink plenty of water each day. Replace coffee with green tea too, as this is a great antioxidant that helps burn fat. What’s more, whey protein shakes are fantastic to have as a convenient snack or healthy meal supplement, especially after you exercise, to build and regenerate muscles. Just mix milk or water to the protein powder and enjoy!

So, even if you’ve got a busy schedule that doesn’t provide much time for extensive exercise routines or nutritious food preparation, there are numerous ways you can keep fit and stay healthy.
