Delaney and Trent’s ‘Community Based’ Thrifty DIY Backyard Wedding by Three Twenty Studio

Today on the blog it’s all about Autumn tones and inspiration. Todays wedding, although happening in April of this year, has the most beautiful autumn colours. This afternoon I am bringing you some gorgeous autumn wedding inspiration. Laney and Trent were married on 15th April 2020 at Lafayette in Louisiana. ‘Laney and Trent wanted to keep their wedding simple but full of love. They decided to host their wedding in the front yard of their new home they were remodeling. Their wedding had vintage and colourful decor that was hand made or thrifted personally for the wedding.’ I love the simplicity of this backyard wedding, mixed with the stunning deep colours and tones. The bridesmaids are especially cool, I just love the mixture of dresses. Big thanks to Dylan Wilkinson from Three Twenty Studio for the gorgeous images.

How they met
Trent and I went to high school together, but we first became friends through serving in our youth group together. Every year, for the last 5 years, Trent and I have gone to Acadian Village to see the Christmas lights. Our favorite part has always been the little white chapel which is always completely covered in lights. One Saturday in December of 2018, we walked into our favorite little chapel by ourselves, and Trent proposed. I said yes, and we hugged, and then I noticed our friends and family coming in screaming and cheering.

Outfits
For my dress, I knew I wanted aline dress with a sheer jacket look. I bought a simple strapless dress from from David’s Bridal, and designed my floral embellished top with Donna Ancelet. Trent is very into classy dress – suits and bowties – and his favorite color is red. He chose his suit because he found the tweed old fashioned and the color modern. For bridesmaids, I found them all on asos.com and was mostly going for a colorful sunset vibe. For groomsmen, we basically told them to wear anything.

Theme or colour scheme
Our inspiration or goal for the wedding was to have a community-based celebration. Our main color palette was olive, mustard, and burnt orange. We centered our ceremony around the Lord’s biblical design for marriage and community.

Flowers
Our florals were from fifty flowers, and my bridesmaids and I made all the arrangements ourselves. We make flower crowns, bouquets, boutonnieres, table runners, and various vases to decorate the area.

Decor
Trent’s family farm already brought a ton of beauty to the scene, but we had fun with the little details too. The welcome sign was a DIY using an old window from the farmhouse and engagement photos. On the table with our triangle unity/community symbol, we used wedding photos from our family members. We thrifted all glassware (which we used as wedding favors) and vases. We strung the lights ourselves. We also borrowed many things from friends and family such as the dance floor, my parent’s wedding cake topper, the tiered bookshelf with our engagement photos, etc.

Personal Touches
Our parents made both the gumbos, and a lady from our church made our cake. My aunt and uncle MC-ed for us. The entire day was a blast, but I think our favorite part was dancing all night with our closest friends.

Special Moments
We were just excited to have a day where we could be present and joyful and dance really hard with our people. Also, of course, finally and permanently becoming one. One of the things our officiator said in our ceremony that still sticks with me is that our mission and ministry is now to serve each other first. That was pretty good too.

Advice for other couples
Do whatever you can to be present. Don’t plan too much to do week of, and don’t worry about the little details. Enjoy the day with the people you love!
