Commerce subjects in Class 11 and 12: Deciding or choosing the stream after class 10th is the toughest and most important task. The stream opted for by the students after class 10th plays a huge role in deciding the career ahead. Usually, after class 10th there are three options available, these are, Humanities, Science, and Commerce. Often, students get confused about which stream to choose. What is Commerce?

Scope of Commerce

Commerce is the branch of the study of business activities. Commerce is a division of trade or production that basically deals with the exchange of goods and services starting from the producer and finally ending up with the consumer. This subject has great scope within the country and at the international level. As 11th forms the foundation of the subject and after 12th you have great opportunities in the fields, such as

  • B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce) after completing Class 12 board examinations. This is a 3-year undergraduate degree and is like a fundamental foundation course.

Commerce, as a course of education, can be interpreted as a study of business and trade pursuits such as the exchange of goods, products, and services from the producer to the final customer. There are four mandatory subjects in class 11th which are Accountancy, Economics, and Business Studies including English. Along with Core subjects, some of the elective subjects are Mathematics, Informatics Practices, Computer Science Home Science, Physical Education, Psychology, Fine Arts, and Language Studies (Hindi, French, German).

Core Commerce Subjects In Class 11th

Accountancy

Accounting also called Accountancy is the primary word around which organizations across the globe evolve. It is the measuring, analyzing, summarizing, processing, and communicating of financial and nonfinancial transactions related to business. Accountancy is the stream that imparts you knowledge of basic accounting principles, preparing and deciphering the company financial statements, and measuring the profitability of the organization. As gaining profit is the prime motive for all organizations. Accountancy is the base on which profitability is determined. Accountancy in commerce subjects includes Financial Accounting I, Financial Accounting II, and Project Work in class 11th.

Business Studies

The courses in Business Studies are introduced at the level of + 2 stages of Senior Secondary Education as formal commerce education is provided after the first ten years of schooling. This subject helps to prepare students to manage, analyze, manage, evaluate and respond to changes that affect business. The study of business provides a way of looking at and interacting with the business habitat. Business studies include studies about the foundation of business, Finance, and Trade.

Economics

Economics is the branch of the social sciences, which has greatly influenced every human being. The economics courses deal with the production, consumption, and distribution of goods and services. The study of economics helps students to explore various economic issues both in their day-to-day life and also from issues that are broader and invisible in nature. Class 11th Economics includes Statistics for Economics and Introductory Microeconomics.

English

English as a subject is a compulsory language paper in every stream, be it Commerce, Science, or Humanities. Considered the ‘global language’, it is rapidly finding its place amongst the commonly spoken languages in the world. On a combined level of classes 11th and 12th, students get to learn about writing, speaking and listening skills, comprehension, etc.

Core Commerce Subject in Class 12th

Accountancy

Accountancy is one of the major and important commerce subjects and has been bifurcated into 3 parts. It deals with a comprehensive understanding of the systematic and detailed recording of the financial transactions of a business. The role of this subject is that it helps in running a business–tracking income and expenditure, providing investors, management, and government with financial information, and ensuring statutory compliance. Accountancy includes Accounting for Partnership Firms and Companies, Financial Statement Analysis, and Project Work.

Business Studies

Business is a dynamic process that requires togetherness of technology, natural resources, and human initiative in a constantly changing global environment. To acquire basic knowledge of the business world, a course called Business Studies is designed that would help the students to understand the terms, facts, and concepts. Business studies in class 12th include Principles and Functions of Management and Business Finance and Marketing.

Economics

This subject can be explained in several different ways. It’s the study of shortage, the study of how people use minimum resources to utilize maximum. It helps people to understand how an individual, companies, and governments make decisions on declared resources to satisfy the desires and requirements of the consumer. Economics in class 12th includes the study of macroeconomics and also Indian economics development.

English

English is a language that is spread worldwide, whether you have your clients at the national level or at the international level this subject helps to deal with. Usually, the subject and basic grammar are learned until 10th grade, and this isn’t a new shoe that needs to be broken in. It is a cosmopolitan language, and you must be fluent in it. Once you graduate, English is the only language that helps you to secure your survival in the company or job realm.
