Champions League draw: European giants discover their fate

Football around the world has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic and for a while it seemed like the rest of the current season might not be played at all.

However, the sport is gradually returning and the biggest teams in European football discovered their fate for the knockout stages of the Champions League this season during the draw on Friday.

The first quarter-final sees the winner of the last 16 of Real Madrid and Manchester City face the winner of Lyon and Juventus and the second offers a clash of different styles, while RB Leipzig faces Atletico Madrid, who eliminated the holder of Liverpool.

The winners of the links between Naples and Barcelona and Chelsea and Bayern Munich will compete in the third quarter-final, and the newcomer to the Champions League Atalanta will face Paris Saint-Germain.

After the postponement of the football season, the final stages of the Champions League will return in a slightly modified format.

The return matches of the round of 16 between Manchester City and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, Juventus and Lyon and Barcelona and Napoli have yet to be played in the respective stadiums of the teams from 7 to 8 August.

However, from the quarterfinals onwards, matches will be played in one stage and all matches will be played in Lisbon, Portugal, from August 12.
