A Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War player recently discovered that Mimics in Zombies are able to disguise themselves as Perk Machines.
While playing Zombies, one Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War player discovered that Mimics are capable of disguising themselves as Perk machines. Special class, shapeshifting enemies, Mimics first entered the fray with the advent of the Firebase Z map in early February of this year.
Akin to the alien creatures of the same name in Arkane Studios’ Prey, the Mimics in Black Ops Cold War can transform themselves into a variety of different objects strewn about the environment. Their hiding places are fairly limited, however, and anyone who’s spent enough time on Firebase Z knows how to discern them from regular, non-murderous objects. Still, Mimics are rather devious; they’re even known to assume the form of scorestreaks and loot boxes. And it seems their ability to adopt clever hiding spots doesn’t stop there.
During a recent playthrough in Zombies, Reddit user LeMemeMoo learned firsthand of the Mimics’ more sophisticated camoflauging techniques. The Redditor shared gameplay footage in which they quickly move past a Perk machine, only to be stopped dead in their tracks upon realizing that a Mimic had disguised itself as the device. As noted by the player in a subsequent post, the Call of Duty Wiki makes no mention of a Mimic’s ability to use Perk machines for hiding. Several other commenters within the thread said they, too, were surprised by the revelation, though one person did claim that a friend apparently experienced the phenomenon shortly after Firebase Z went live.
Reason suggests there are at least a few explanations for this particular occurrence. One, the chances of Mimics popping out of Perk machines may be incredibly low. It’s also possible that this aspect of the creature’s AI entered the mix via a recent update. Meanwhile, other fans are wondering if such an occurrence is actually part of a future update whose contents were prematurely released, similar to the drama surrounding the R1 Shadowhunter crossbow.
Whatever the cause of the Mimics newfound behaviors, Zombies players should probably exercise more caution while navigating Firebase Z. Who knows for sure what other objects the creatures may hide in that remain undiscovered?
