Beyond Choupette: In this difficult moment for everyone, even celebs are exempt from moments of scorching solitude, from time to time. Calls on Zoom, breaks on TikTok and homemade raves are all beautiful things, but sometimes virtual encounters are not the best. Our furry friends of all sizes and shapes enter the field, the confirmation that our beloved pets manage to lift our mood when we really need it. Here are the most famous pets of the moment …
1. Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson
Pet: Two dogs, Bowie and Hendrix (unknown breed)
Reason for boasting: Just before it was known that they broke up, Cara Delevingne and her girlfriend Ashley Benson had shared a few moments of pampering (and comfort) with their followers on Instagram (65 and a half million in two) with the two newly adopted dogs.
Top moment: in an Instagram post that said ‘We adopted these two wonders during the quarantine, you should do it too!’ Delevingne introduced the two puppies he adopted from a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles, The Labelle Foundation. Delevingne fans know that love for stray babies was born long before Bowie and Hendrix arrived. At the end of the new single from his dear friend Fiona Apple, Fetch the Bolt Cutters (from the acclaimed new album of the same name) dogs are heard barking: it’s his Leo and Alfie, who together with Apple’s dogs have been the vocalist for the song.
2. Miley Cyrus
Pet: A Persian cat, Shanti Om Bb
Reason for boasting: Not surprisingly, this adorable fur ball named Shanti Om Bb has become a true Instagram influencer. With more than 86,000 followers and memes that would make anyone smile, Shanti will certainly increase the number of cat lovers, even among the most skeptical.
Moment of glory: Miley in a T-shirt with the photo of Shanti Om Bb’s face (worn under a pink top and a handbag, both furry) at the Tonight Show.
3. Kaia Gerber
Pet: adopted puppies (unknown name and breed)
Reason for boasting: Having famous parents is a family feature. Kaia recently posted some photos with her two quarantine mates, and like Delevingne and Benson she also chose to adopt a couple of furry friends. In a recent Instagram post where she writes ‘We stay home’, the model takes a nap with one of her new puppies.
Moment of glory: Kaia Gerber has literally conquered Instagram by sharing a photo in which she shows her new hair (which as everyone knows she has lightened at home alone with a DIY kit, triggering a thousand reactions) and wearing an animal bikini with the her puppy sleeping beside her. What more do you want from life?
4. Billie Eilish
Pet: A pit bull, called the ‘little nameless monkey’
Reason for boasting: Billie Eilish’s dog affectionately renamed “nameless monkey” made his social debut in a recent Instagram story, effectively joining the ranks of “celebrity pets”. But unlike the other adoptive parents, Eilish decided to keep the pit bull puppy for whom she was actually looking for a foster family, joking that she had not been good at “having him adopted”.
Moment of glory: After Eilish decided on an impulse to give her new friend a definitive home, the singer urged her followers to do the same. “If you don’t know what to do while we’re all stuck at home, adopt puppies,” he wrote, tagging the name of the LA Angel City Pit Bulls dog shelter.
5. Taylor Swift
Pet: a Scottish fold cat, Olivia Benson
Reason for boasting: As every Swiftie worthy of the name knows, the megastar has a boundless passion for cats. Her three cats, whom she wanted to call with the names of characters from the cinema (Olivia Benson, Meredith Gray and Benjamin Button) have appeared in countless Instagram posts, music videos and commercials, next to her.
What makes Olivia Benson more interesting than her siblings is that the furry cat, who is named after the character played by Mariska Hargitay in the TV giant Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, apparently, she has a net worth of 97 million dollars, (yes, you read that right), which makes her the richest cat in the world.
Moment of glory: Choosing only one is an impossible task, but in a recent photo on Instagram of Olivia Benson in quarantine, the expression of the cat between the royal and the offended is a wonderful starting point for infinite memes.
6. Ariana Grande
Pet: 12 dogs: Lily, Snape, Myron, Toulouse, Coco, Ophelia, Pignoli, Lafayette, Cinnamon, Strauss, Sirius and Fawkes (of various breeds)
Reason for boasting: The pop star has 12 – yes, 12 – dogs that dominate her eclectic Instagram account (although not everyone lives with her). Ariana Grande made headlines in the past because she regularly brought her puppies with her on tour, giving a new meaning to the term “roadie”.
Moment of glory: The star is used to being in the spotlight, but on the cover of Fashion of August 2019, taken by the legendary Annie Leibovitz, the singer is definitely overshadowed by the best player on the field, her Toulouse, a cross between a beagle and a chihuahua.
