Best Easter Bread Recipe – How to Make Traditional Easter Bread

When Easter is celebrated in the Greek way, there are some traditions that are always included on the big day: lamb skewer, the egg cracking game and tsoureki (a.k.a. Greek) Easter bread). The braided wreaths of brioche-like bread are a clear favorite, especially since they look edible Easter baskets. Although this recipe is a proven staple in most Greek (and not Greek) households, it could use a festive refresher: enter funfetti.

Instead of dusting the batter with lemon zest or fennel seeds, use two layers of confetti cake mix to add extra sweetness to this classic and Colour. Because nobody can resist bread with a birthday cake taste. Kalo Pasha!

14-ounce roll-bought pizza dough

10th


hard-boiled eggs plus 1 lightly beaten egg for brushing

  1. Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out pizza dough on cutting board; Cut into 1-inch strips with a sharp knife.
  3. For each wreath, dust 2 strips of dough with a little cake mixture. Squeeze the tips together and gently twist them into a rope. Pinch the ends together to form a circle. Transfer to a prepared baking sheet.
  4. Lightly brush the wreaths with beaten egg. Add more cake mix and crumble.
  5. Gently tap one side of each hard-boiled egg on the cutting board to crack easily. Place in wreath centers and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer to wire rack for easy cooling.
