Ash Ketchum has added another powerful Pokémon to his team, as his Galarian Farfetch’d evolved into Sirfetch’d during the latest episode of the anime.
Ash Ketchum’s team of competitive-level Pokémon is now complete, as he has added a Sirfetch’d to his group in the latest episode of the Pokémon anime. Sirfetch’d is a Fighting-type evolution of Galarian Farfetch’d, both of which were introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
The original version of Farfetch’d was one of the weakest Pokémon in Pokémon Red and Blue, due to its abysmal stats and typing. It received a Fighting-type form in Pokémon Sword and Shield, which could evolve into Sirfetch’d. The feeble leek that Farfetch’d used in the older games was replaced with a sword and shield combo, the former of which could be wielded like a lance. After years of disrespect, the Farfetch’d line finally gained some well-deserved notoriety on the Pokémon battlefield, due to the benefits of the Leek held-item. If a Sirfetch’d holds a Leek in battle, then its critical hit ratio is drastically improved. It’s a nightmare to evolve a Galarian Farfetch’d into a Sirfetch’d, but it’s well worth the effort, as they’re notorious for scoring multiple critical hits over the course of a single battle.

Ash Ketchum caught a Galarian Farfetch’d early in the Pokémon Journeys anime. During the World Coronation Series battles, the pair would face a rematch against a trainer named Rinto and his Gallade – who had previously beaten Ash and Farfetch’d. The bird Pokémon’s leek would be split in two during this battle, leading to it using the pieces as a sword and shield, which would culminate in it pulling off a series and critical hits and thus evolving during the fight – similar to how players evolve Sirfetch’d in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Now that Ash has Sirfetch’d, his entire team of new Pokémon consist of fully-evolved creatures, as he has Dragonite, Dracovish, Gengar, Lucario, and Sirfetch’d. It’s likely that his Pikachu also cannot evolve, following the revelation that it has a Gigantamax form. All of these Pokémon are feared in the actual video games, and it’s refreshing to see Ash use a team that an actual player would use, rather than the random assortment of region-specific Pokémon (plus Pikachu) that he used for most of the series.
A lot of Pokémon fans believe that Ash Ketchum is building a dream team of competitive Pokémon for his final run as the main character of the anime, as he is currently taking part in a world tournament with the best trainers from around the globe. Sirfetch’d would certainly qualify as a powerful Pokémon for Ash’s team, and it will be interesting to follow its progress in the upcoming episodes of the Pokémon anime.
